Zambia U-23 National team head coach Oswald Mutapa is expected to call at least 2 to 4 U20 players to join camp ahead of the Egypt showdown.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that Mutapa will hand the Young Bullets a chance to train and prove themselves with the U-23 squad despite their disastrous outing at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Last week after a training session Mutapa hinted on the inclusion of players from Chisi Mbewe’s team.
“At the moment we feel these are the right players, maybe two or three from the U-20 team to come and help us to qualify,” – Mutapa told the ZamFoot Crew last week after a training session at Edwin Imboela Stadium
After their low key return from Egypt, The ZamFoot Crew understands that the players summoned will now join camp.
The U-23 National team have a two legged tie against Egypt for a place at the Morocco 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
Mutapa’s lads progressed to the final round with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline while the Young Pharaohs reached the final round with a 1-0 aggregate win over Eswatini.
Egypt will host Zambia on 19th March before making a trip to Lusaka for the return leg on 27th March for a place at the fourth edition of the tournament.
The U23 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in July 2023 in Morocco with the first three teams qualifying automatically to the 2024 Olympic Games.
