Tunisia bury Zambia at home in World Cup qualifier

Zambia 0 – 2 Tunisia (Khazri 8′, A Ben Slimane 90′)

The Zambia national team was on Tuesday afternoon beaten 2 – 0 at home by Tunisia in a Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying match.

A goal on either side of the half buried the Chipolopolo at home despite putting the visitors on the back-foot for the better part of the match and creating more chances.

Coach Beston Chambeshi made two changes to the starting XI bringing in Dickson Chapa and Brian Mwila for Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka who were not available for the match as they had to travel back to their bases after the game against Mauritania.

Zambia went down after Wahbi Khazri converted from the spot in the 8th minute. This was after Benedict Chepeshi was penalized for a handball in the box.

The Chipolopolo took the game to the visitors but they were poor in attack ending the half with no shot on target. The best chance fell to Dickson Chapa who saw his shot go over the bar after a good one-two with Mwila in the box.

Zambia upped their game in the second half and were looking the more likely to score. The tempo was raised further when Chambeshi made a double sub to bring in Clatous Chama and Kelvin Kampamba in the last 30 minutes.

The two substitutes combined well when Kampamba brilliantly eluded his marker to cross for Chama whose point blank header drew a reflex save from F. Ben Mustapha in the Tunisia goal.

Teenage substitute Jimmy Mukeya who replaced Prince Mumba squandered a precious chance when he ran on a through ball played by Spencer Sautu only for him to shoot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Tunisia put the final nail on the head when the Zambia defense was cut open on the right in the third minute of stoppage time. Mwenya Chibwe responded well to save the initial short but Ben Slimane was on hand to slot home the rebound.

With only one team qualifying from the group, Zambia has a tall order to get to the top of the group as they remain at three points while Tunisia moves to six points.

Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea who are both without any points play later in the evening.

  1. Poor finishing costed us game, we would have scored four goals brian mwila, prince mumba, dickson chapa and jimmy mukeya missed clear cut chances.

  2. The moment faz appointed Chambeshi it showed us the luck of seriousness. FAZ excutive needs to resign so that they can go and engage chambeshi to be coaching their kids in their backyards

  3. There is no way under the sun can Zambia qualify for the world cup with such kind of play and which European team can Zambia beat if they qualify.

  4. Busy marketing players that’s why they do not like to work with professionals. The issue of marketing it has been happening for a long time. If they help the player to get a club they later dump him. Can someone stand up and tell me that dominic chanda and Solomon sakala they are better than kabaso and tandi. Chambeshi should tell us which kind of comparison is be used. C chama was of on bench the whole match. Its now clear that the issue of visa was fake.

  5. Egypt won their first game 1 nil and drew next game 1-1 with Gabon and the Coach was fired immediately that’s a team that is serious and might go to the World Cup. Football Association of Zambia with Mr Kamanga have to show us that they serious.
If you saw the comments yesterday and today on Twiter and Zambianfootball.co.zm very few people were optimistic because the Coach has his favourites. The team he selected is a COSAFA team not a team that is looking to qualify for the W.C.

Tandi Mwape has years of experience playing Africa Champions League for years. The Tunisian team has same players that he has played against. Him and Sunzu could be the best Central defenders we have, Solomon Sakala, Body Musonda were called to the National team in the past and did not meet the grade only Patson, Fashion , Mwepu, E.Banda, T.Chilufya from the classs of 2017 made the Grade.

Body Musonda was signed in Tunisia by CS Sfaxien and he did nots last a season he failed to meet the grade. He came back to Zambia. The Coach thinks the same Body can play against Tunisia and Zambia wins.

Another seasoned player Cletus is benched yet Body, D.Chapa start the game. No Coach who undestands football can do that. Its suicided what he did Chambeshi.
Larry Bwalya. A.Mulenga, K.Kangwa, E.Banda all these ignored for inexperienced players. Like @Franco says what team can Zambia beat with a COSAFA line up like this?

Zambia is going NOWHERE with Chambeshi Beston as Coach. This guy is clueless tactically and can’t read the game. I personally l said so when he was appointed. We don’t have a local Coach who can handle our boys. Abena Patson,Fashion, Mwepu, T.Chilufya now are at another level. The have been exposed to top class Coaches. Yes he Coached them then but they have out grown Chambeshi.

FAZ should FIRE Chambeshi NOW. Our chances now stand at 8% with Chambeshis as Coach and having lost at home. So dissapointed with FAZ.

  6. Micho the guy fired by FAZ is A better Coach compared to Chambeshi. Yo may not agree with me. Please convince me otherwise.

Mr. Kamanga and his team have failed us way too much. That win away from home has come to nothing now. I don’t see Tunisia losing any game. We should forget Qatar 2022 W.C not with this Coach.
FAZ DO THE RIGHT THING FIRE BESTON CHAMBESHI.

  7. We not going anywhere with kamanga incharge let us all go to football house n call for his resignation he is only interested in making money by marketing local for national team so he can pocket commission we need kalusha bck or Chris katongo the men who knw football to run football otherwise forgetworld cup forget Africa cup.. despite of quality players abroad we get wena boyd who is benched at his club in Zambia we spencer who is running around clubs Benson sakala with no club babies playing against men..

Lameck banda larry bwalya klings kangwa chanka zimba ntazana mayembe shemmy mayembe Kenneth kalunga Frankie musonda a mabika we got a long list look for them and bring them let locals be last choice…

Let faz organise a match with these players against chipande chipande local boys we c who wins…n by hw many m sure these chipante chipante will lose 5-0

  8. why dont we adopt a different home ground since we are in the covid red zone. ofherwise we wont have Mwepu and Daka again. there’s no point in playing in an empty Levy Mwanawasa stadium

  9. AND finally when the chips are down ‘super coach’ Chambeshi throws in his final dice teenage striker Mukeya, who has a glorious chance to score and misses with only the goal keeper to beat! You don’t do that in a crucial match when the game is almost lost. Firstly the boy is inexperienced, secondly the pressure at that moment required mature players and finally you destroy the young man psychologically!

  10. BC. If indeed you follow this blog I wrote before the match that Zambia would lose. The reasons are simple. You have not learnt that area marking is what stops the Arab strikers. Review the last goal and you will notice a Tunisian running on the left wing untracked. All your defenders were ball matching and losing shape. For as long as your defenders lose position and the shape collapsed, you are going nowhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Why do local coaches accept appointments as National coach fully knowing they can’t handle?? Chambeshi should have turned down the offer as he fully knew he was not going to deliver??? Reason very simple. He is not qualified and has no experience at National level

Ask yourselves one question? How many international games did he play? Where was he trained? If you look at the local coaches that we have there is no one fully qualified to coach the National Team

  12. The problem of Zambia is not coaches but players. Most of your players are locally based. Players from West or North Africa prosper because of over seas based player who have over the years have improved because of improved facility.

Look at Senegal, Nigeria etc how many home base player are in their line up.

Zambaia should start sending players abroad.

  13. @ng .. Zambia can assemble a team of European based professionals. Its just poor team selection and they busy marketing players.

  14. @ng .. Zambia can assemble a team of European based professionals. Its just poor team selection and they busy marketing players. European based players. Francisco mwepu, larmerck banda, Kenneth kalunga, Abel kanyamuna , shemmy mahembe, frank musonda, ntazana mahembe , mwiya malumo, lupfimba mwandwe , emmanuel banda, kingly kwanga , Evans kwanga , saith sakala, Martin chibambo and Nobel in Georgia
