Zambia Under-17 suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in a Group B opening tie of the CAF U17 African Cup of Nations.
Despite the defeat, one of the players Sekanji Siame is trending on social after his display against the Eaglets.
Sekanji is on the books of Sporting Lusaka and currently on loan at Konkola Blades.
Below is the fans and journalists’ perspective on one of Zambia’s symbol of present and future.
“Central defender Sekanji Siame, if well groomed, is a formidable 4/5. The lad is calm, composed and has good timing,” former The Post Newspaper Sports Editor Augustine Mukoka wrote.
“Sekanji Siame reminds me of Ziyo Tembo. Cool, calm and collected,” wrote Punch Chama
“Sekanji is the best revelation for the year 2023. He needs to move to Europe ASAP. Such a fine, cool and calm defender,” added Bonaventure Mutale
“They all come from Chipata compound” wrote Bwalya Kabwe.
“The most outstanding player in the match against Nigeria 🇳🇬,” wrote Enoch Mtonga
“This boy is headed for great things in his career. Very good on the ball. Very good player. He played very well. Man of the match for me,” added one of the country’s and Zambia Daily Mail top sports journalist Alex Basopo.
Infact I think when that Siame boy matures he will be in the grades of finest defenders Zambia has produced. Bena Makwaza ,Richard Stephenson, Ackim Musenge, Edward Musonda, Eston Mulenga to mention but afew.
People have talked much on Siame which is good but don’t forget about Mwaliteta jr who also brought stability in the midfield when he was introduced.
