Transcript of Former President Banda on the Chipolopolo

Former Republican President Rupiah Banda had an interview with Kennedy Gondwe on Studio Ken on the declining standards of the Chipolopolo.

The former Zambian President delivered a 10 minutes long and passionate interview on the state of Zambian football.

With Zambia’s dismissal performance continuing, many stakeholders have expressed displeasure and recently the fans booed the FAZ boss at Heroes Stadium during the team’s 4-0 win over Mauritania.

Below are some of the quotes from H.E. Rupiah Bwezani Banda’s interview.

‘’We are not in this just for our personal glory but we are in this for the people and if the people are not happy, then it means you have failed. It doesn’t matter what you think.

“People are not happy so why can’t we sit down and think about it together without taking it personal,’’

Zambia were a 3-1 away defeat to Tunisia in the World Cup Qualifiers

“I felt sorry for Patson Daka when I saw his picture after the game yesterday.I felt sorry for Fashion, I felt sorry for Mwepu wherever he was even if he wasn’t there.

“I felt sorry for all our players and all our football fans all over the world when our players were coming out of the ground 3-1 because it’s so humiliating to them ,they are playing so well for their clubs, they are heroes where they are,but when they come to play for their country we can’t even ask ourselves what can we do better , if you ask that question then, you are against me. Nobody is against anyone here, we are all brothers and sisters , we are all Zambians,’’

“And this business of politicising everything when you go the ground which political this one belongs this.

Flash back: Mali v Zambia (2004). This was the team after Patrick Phiri’s team was dismantled for failing to qualify to AFCON in Tunis

“If the people are not happy, it doesn’t matter what you think, you have failed. The people, we are not happy…. There is business of not forgiving each other. Where is Simataa? Why can’t we call him to help us? Where is Mr. Mtine?

“Where is Pivoty Simwanza? Where are the former footballers? Why can’t we get together and find the solution so that we enjoy football once again? But he is behaving as if the only people who are there in football are those elected… Even Kalusha one of the best footballers we ever had, where is he? Bwalya is Zambian, he is my child, he is your brother. Where are the players who won Afcon 2012?”

  1. Mr. Kamanga started discussing president Banda’s CV in football. There is even Chiparamba academy which took Fayo Tembo to Basel a very good European team where Xhedan Shakiri played na Fwayo watu…
Apa Mr. Kamanga you have to resign. The status of the Chipolopolo is not good. Chapwa!
