MTN Super League Champions, Power Dynamos suffered a 3-1 defeat to Forest Rangers in the curtain raiser, the Carling Black Label Zambia Charity Shield on Saturday.
However, Power head coach Mwenya Chipepo says the starting eleven was not their strong line up.
The sponsors of the Charity Shield opened up the selection of the starting line ups to the fans who picked both starting line ups for Mwenya Chipepo and his counterpart Ian Bakala.
Chipepo says he and his technical bench will make their own starting line up and will fight hard to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage.
“We have learned something; soccer fans have their own opinion; they want to see other players; it’s up to us to go back and regroup and concentrate on the coming game,” he said.
“This was not our strong team, it was made by fans so us as coaches we just have to control everything. Going forward we are going to make our own team that is going to fight and make sure we qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage.”
Chipepo believes the Charity Shield has helped him see which players can play in the local league and who can play in continental football.
“We are going to make sure we consolidate the midfield and the defence; that’s where we made a lot of mistakes, especially in defence,” Chipepo said.
“We have seen players who can play league games and those who can play continental games, we are going to make changes going forward.”
Power Dynamos will start their title defense against Prison Leopards away on Kabwe on Saturday.
In the CAF Champions League, The Zambian champions will face African Stars FC of Namibia in the preliminary round.
Should the Kitwe giants navigate past African Stars over two-legged then they will date East Africa in a showdown against Simba SC.
But coach chipepo the best thing is to agree that power lost because it was not there day.both teams had the fans speak so why did forest win instead.The players were not picked from the street by fans but are all in your dressings rooms at power stadium.it was a good thing the fans unearthed the players you could use for the league or continental football .learn to appreciate when you are wrong chipepo
