Copper Queens Coach Bruce Mwape has said his ‘team is ready for the World Cup.’
Zambia face Japan on Saturday in a Group C opening tie with kickoff at 09H00 CAT.
“We have done our home work. We have worked on the mistakes especially the ones we identified during the game against Germany and going forward I’m sure there will be an improvement and as far as I’m concerned the team is ready for the World Cup,” the 63 year old said.
“We are ready for Japan and i’m sure even them they are not sleeping especially after winning Germany. They will make sure that they give us a tough time and even us we want to make sure that we carry the day.”
Mwape is already a national hero having taken the Copper Queens to two Womens African Cup of Nations in 2018 and 2022.
While the team failed to make it past the group stage in 2018, last year Mwape managed to steer girls to the World Cup.
He also has Cosafa Cup title as well as Olympic participation to his name.
With around 20 million plus Zambian cheering on the Copper Queens, Mwape is not short of motivation.
“Motivation is actually coming from different angles. The other night we had a meeting with the Head of State, the Republican President and he addressed the whole team. That was good enough for the players to get motivated because coming from the head of state it is something big and the girls will make sure that they do well so that they don’t disappoint the President.”
After facing Japan on Sunday, attention will shift to ties against Spain and Cosafa Rica.
