1.NKANA STILL VERY MUCH A TITLE CONTENDER
Record 13 time MTN Super League Champions, Nkana cruised to a 5-1 win over Atletico Lusaka to remind everyone that their title chase is still on course.
Mwenya Chipepo’s side went three games without a win to move from top spot but the win over Atletico Lusaka means they are just 6 points adrift of log leaders, ZESCO United and with eleven games to go, Nkana are very much within the reach of a record extending 14th title.
The five goals are the most Nkana have scored so far this season, before Saturday’s match Nkana had only managed to score three as a most in a match against Mufulira Wanderers, Red Arrows, Indeni and Green Buffaloes.
Yes Atletico were a man down but Nkana utilized their advantage and scored five goals, something you expect from a team that is fighting for the league.
2. NAPSA STARS AND DRAWS IS A BETTER LOVE STORY THAN TITANIC
The pensioners were held to a goalless draw by Nchanga Rangers taking their draws this season 12 out of the 23 games they have played.
The draw is their fifth in the last six games. To put it into perspective, had they won even half of the games they have drawn they would be in the top 3 with 39 points.
They currently sit in 11th place with 27 points from 23 games.
3. NKWAZI IS THE WILD CARD AND EAGLE’S NIGHTMARE
Innocent Kashita’s lone strike gave Nkwazi a narrow 1-0 win over Green Eagles to take their point tally to 37.
The Zambia Police sponsored outfit are unbeaten in their last six games, winning three and drawing three.
Nkwazi are just six points from top spot and maybe just maybe they can pull off the impossible, highly unlikely but never say with MTN Super League.
For Eagles, playing Nkwazi must be one of the things they really don’t like as they have only managed four wins in the last 25 meetings.
Nkwazi have won 10 with eleven ending in draws since 2008.
4. THE GOALS STILL NOT COMING
Despite Nkana scoring five games, the rest of the games scored under 2.5 goals. The league has continued to generally be low scoring.
To take a different angle at this, from the top ten goalscorers as at week 22, only Innocent Kashita number 7 on the least and Biston Banda number 10 on the list found the back of the net over the weekend.
Meaning Godfrey Binga and Titus Chansa with their 10 goals are still leading goalscorers as at week 23.
5. ZANACO WOES CONTINUE
ZANACO’s woes continued as they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of FC MUZA.
The loss is ZANACO’s 4th in the last six games and eighth so far this season.
Not having Numba Mumamba on the bench does not help either as the issue with Kabwe Warriors is still yet to be sorted.
