Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has called for complete overhaul of the Copper Queens technical bench.
This follows the early exit of the team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The former Zanama FC chairman also feels that there should be changes in midfield and defence.
“When you ask me from a personal point of view, I think there is a need to make some overhaul changes, especially in the midfield and defence, even the technical bench.
“That I will not hide from you; it’s my personal point.
The Copper Queens crashed out of the #Paris2024Olympics without a win.
Zambia lost 3-0 to USA in the first game before a heartbreaking 6-5 defeat to Australia.
In the final game, Germany inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Bruce Mwape’s ladies.
The Copper Queens will be looking to redeem themselves next at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The minister is now behaving like the minister of football, when he’s actually minister of sport, all sports in the country. So it’s just fair that he leaves football administration to FAZ, the association legally mandated to run football affairs in the country, which includes appointing coaches (or so called technical bench)! Even FAZ has no mandate to talk about who the coaches choose or pick to plays in goal, defence or mid field, why should the whole of the minister sink so low? Such kind of talk from the minister will just make coaches refuse to take up national team appointments for fear of lashing from the minister. The minister should learn to handle issues officially by talking through his permanent secretary-sport to FAZ! The truth his that the girls tried their best, it was just that the teams they played were very too strong for them! And football, like all other competitions, there can only be one winner at any one time! And from time the referee blows the whistle the result can be a win, draw or loss! But it seems the minister is not prepared to see Zambia lose! Just like he would not like Zambia to lose, even the sports minister in the USA would not like his country to lose! Therefore he should accept when Zambia looses as it is part of the game!
I feel the Minister said that in his personal opinion and there’s nothing wrong for him to express his opinion. Yes i agree with Mukuka that the girls tried their best and that the teams they played were too strong but how do you explain the Australia game. Surely there’s something missing in our team and it needs serious attention. Look at the Ghana game, we barely survived. Changes are needed at the technical bench. Bruce Mwape has done his best but we fresh ideas. The team just plays long balls and no passing game. By the way where’s Hazel Nali our goal keeper.
Comment:we need to change the coach, goalkeeper and midfieder ba bruce tapaba ifyo baishiba ni barbra banda, kundanaji, mweeba nga tabalimo katwishi nefyocingaba
Comment:both men and women we need to change coaches and find another coaches especiall in portugal, spain and germany na bo abacepeleko 45 years below
SPOT ON wonder why it has taken him this long to voice his opinion. Change the coach & technical bench. Leave the team alone. Those women are perfect they just need proper trainers.
BRUCE Mwape has done enough he will never improve this squad any further. Intact he has never improved anything he has always been heavily reliant on individual brilliance from the players….
The players deserve better. The nation deserves much better. African must see our girls at their best. The continent deserves that.
