Six Zambia U17 players overage

SIX under-17 national team players have been found overage ahead of the 2017 Africa Junior Championship qualifying series.

Team manager Collins Phiri confirmed in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the players underwent the magnetic resonance imaging test (MRI) at Fairview Hospital.

Phiri, however, could not disclose the identities of the players.

The team is preparing for the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Championship slated for Mauritius from July 22 to 31.

Zambia were drawn in Group B and hosts Mauritius in Group A for the tournament that will be staged on the Indian Ocean island.

The young Chipolopolo who are the reigning champions also have Malawi, Madagascar and Mozambique in their group.

The team is being coached by Oswald Mutapa and will be looking to emulate the 2014 team that qualified to the 2015 CAF U17 championship.

  1. Good thing we Zambians are honest and when we find irregularities in our team, we fix it, so kudos to those involved in making sure that we don’t cheat as other countries that would send overage cheats for a chance to win games. Nigeria and Ghana would probably be sending 35 year olds. In Nigeria one under 17 player has 3 kids. If I am correct the players name is Isaac Success.
