Sinkala to captain Chipolopolo against Desert Foxes

CAF 2012 African Cup of Nations winner Nathan ‘Yaya’ Sinkala is set to captain Zambia this Thursday in a must-win African Cup of Nations Group H against Algeria.

The veteran midfielder is the longest-serving player and the only AFCON winner in camp.

Zambia coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic is believed to have settled for Sinkala over Kabaso Chongo.

Kabaso was Zambia’s captain before he was dropped by Micho last year.

In Kabaso’s international hibernation, Evans Kangwa, Lubambo Musonda, and Enock Mwepu wore the armband at various times.

The 29-year-old made his international debut in that famous 2-1 win over the Demba Ba led Senegalese side at the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea on the road to glory.

The Chingola born has captained Zambia in the past.

Nathan’s elder brother Andrew ‘The General’ Sinkala also captained Zambia as well as the Zambia Under-20.

Former Chipolopolo Boys coach Honour Janza named him as Stopilla Sunzu’s vice-captain in 2014. He subsequently continued in the role as Rainford Kalaba, Kennedy Mweene, and Ziyo Tembo’s deputy whenever the armband would change hands.
