Sinkala: Chiefs goal was my favourite

Stellenbosch FC star Nathan Sinkala has revealed the two favourite goals from his career, including a thumping effort against Kaizer Chiefs last season.

Sinkala is one of the most successful footballers on the African continent and boasts a remarkable medal tally, which includes the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations trophy with Zambia, and the 2015 CAF Champions League crown with TP Mazembe.

These days, the all-action midfielder plies his trade in the DStv Premiership where he has become one of the key figures in a high-flying Stellenbosch outfit, contributing to great effect at both ends of the pitch.

That is a role Sinkala has enjoyed throughout his career and one which has seen him pop up with a number of notable goals over the years, including a strike against Japan in 2014 which he labels as his best-ever goal thus far.

On that occasion, the former Green Buffaloes star received the ball on the edge of a well-worked corner routine before showing off his technique with a well-placed, curling effort from range that sailed past Shusaku Nishikawa in Japan’s goal.

“I think my best goal was against Japan, in a friendly game we played with Zambia,” Sinkala tells Kickoff.com.

“Just the way I scored it was really good and because we were playing against a team like Japan, who had some big-name players.”

The 31-year-old has also scored a number of goals in the DStv Premiership since completing his move to South Africa in January last year, and already boasts five goals in 48 league appearances for Stellies.

His favourite among that tally came late last season when he opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw against Kaizer Chiefs, rising highest in the box to direct a thumping header beyond the on-rushing Daniel Akpeyi.

“One of my favourite goals was in the game against Chiefs,” Sinkala adds. “If you’re talking about in the PSL, my favourite goal was against Chiefs.”

Leandro Castro and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo scored either side of a Phathutshedzo Nange effort to earn Chiefs a share of the spoils, but the point ultimately played an important role in Stellenbosch avoiding the drop.
