Sichone reacts to reaching the semi-finals

Chipolopolo assistant coach Moses Sichone says he knew the team would reach the semi-finals after they scored four goals against Seychelles.

The Chipolopolo Boys reached the last four of the 2023 COSAFA Championship as the best second placed team after Mauritius failed to beat Mozambique.

Zambia will now face rivals South Africa for a place in the final and Sichone expects a tough game.

“It’s a good thing and I must say we knew we would make it because we scored four goals. I hope the boys understood the things we talked about before our training session,” he said.

“We are playing South Africa, it’s going to be a good game so all that I can say is we ‘re going to prepare the team mentally and we hope to reach the final.”

“I would say this is a double motivation because South Africa has the fans, the players should be ready to do more and make our fans happy,” he added.

Head Coach Avram Grant joined the team in training on Wednesday and Sichone feels it’s good for the players’ motivation to see the head coach.

“I have been in touch with the head coach, it’s a good motivation, we have been exchanging notes from day one, it’s good for the guys to see him here,” he said.

Zambia faces South Africa in the semi-finals on Friday with kick-off billed for 18:00hrs.
