Should Fashion Sakala start against Equatorial Guinea

Scotland-based forward Fashion Sakala returns to the international fold after a 12-month absence.

The Glasgow Rangers striker cum winger is one of the foreign-based stars in Beston ‘Quicksilver’ Chambeshi’s Chipolopolo side for this Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo.

The former KV Oostende man was an influential member of the Zambia U-20 national team that won the 2016 COSAFA tournament, 2017 U-20 AFCON, and went on to reach the quarter-finals of the U-20 World Cup.

Sakala netted four goals as the Beston Chambeshi coached U-20 national team claimed their 10th COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championship in South Africa.

He was again in a starring role as Zambia clinched their first Total U-20 Africa Cup Of Nations hosted on home soil in 2017. Fashion netted 3 goals in the process.

The former Nchanga Rangers and Zanaco man again came to the party as Zambia went on to reach the quarter-finals of the 21st edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017. His 4 goals playing a big role.

Sakala made his national debut on September 2, 2017, at the National Heroes Stadium in the 3-1 win over Algeria, he however only lasted 56 minutes as he was sent off for a second bookable offense.

The Scotland-based winger is still yet to make his mark at senior level but showed glimpses of what he can do in the 2-1 win over Botswana on 20th November 2020 at Heroes Stadium as he set up Collins Sikombe for the winner.

Will the showman light up Equatorial Guinea on Thursday and Heroes Stadium on Sunday? That’s the big question and only 90 minutes of football will answer that question.
