Samu nets fifth goal of the season in Maritzburg United heavy defeat

Zambian forward Friday Samu scored his fifth goal for Maritzburg United on Tuesday night as the Team of choice suffered a huge 4-1 defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thembikosi Lorch was the star of the show however as he scored a goal and set up Kwame Peprah, Deon Hotto and Kabelo Dlamini for their goals.

Lorch opened the scores in the 21st minute when the Maritzburg defence was badly exposed as he curled the ball accurately into the far corner past an onrushing Marcel Engelhardt after being released through on goal by a long ball over the top from Deon Hotto.

Lorch then turned his provision magic on as his low cross found Peprah to place a classy finish form the edge of the box three minuted to half time.

Hotto made it 3-0 for Pirates on the hour-mark with a strike past Engelhardt in the box after he beat the offside trap again Lorch with the cross.

The Team of Choice pulled one back three minutes later when a long ball reached Brandon Theron who cut it back to Samu to sweep past Ofori for his fifth goal of his maiden DSTV premiership campaign.

The Buccaneers restored the three goal lead six minutes later as Kabelo Dlamini’s diagonal strike went beyond the reach of Engelhardt, who was out of his area, into a gaping net.

Samu has now been involved in seven goals (5 goals and 2 assists) in 12 games. He is Zambia’s top goalscorer in the PSL with the five goals one more than Mwape Musonda and Gamphani Lungu ( who has a game against Pirates on Monday).
