Week 20 of the Lusaka Province Division 1 went into action over the weekend with just a few days in charge for Musonda his team visited Vector FC, Lusaka City Council suffered their first heavy defeat while Young Buffaloes and Misisi exchanged top positions.
Seven games without a win is a path that Vector Fc endured, The endurance came to an end on Saturday as they welcomed newly appointed Shamuel FC Coach Musonda, who only had a few days with the team with a 2-1 win at the National Assembly ground.
After a goalless first half, striker Tobias Chungu sent the hosts into the lead with a beautiful header that sent the whole team into jubilation. The lead was short-lived as Shamuel restored parity with Cent Kangwa’s goal who fired in a powerful shot from a close range after finding a loose ball in the box amid poor communication from Vector defenders.
Vector Captain Geoffrey Mashata brought his team back into the lead after a beautiful interchange of passes with his teammates. The win for Vector sent the whole team including the club management into jubilation as they are still confident of returning the top slot they lost 7 weeks ago.
The two consecutive home defeats are now water under the bridge as Athletico Lusaka registered a convincingly 3-1 win over Paramilitary at home. Joseph Banda, marcel Zimba, and Richard Ngoma goals were all that the Athletico technical bench needed to end their four games winning drought. A win sees them make a slight move from 14th place to 13th place with 12 points from 9 matches they have played.
For Paramilitary they are now on a rough path as they have gone three games in a row registering defeats.
Emmanuel Timu’s lone goal was adequate for Happy hearts to make a way through into the top 10 on the table. Sitting in 11th place, happy Hearts collected the three points with a one-nil win over Kalilo Celtic at Cooperative College ground. A win meant Happy Hearts breakthrough to top 10 as they now occupy ninth place whereas Kalilo Celtic are on number 17 in the relegation zone.
The Kabwata primary School ground was the only venue that failed to produce a winner after 90 minutes as both teams, Kabwata Dynamos and Irwin Rangers shared the points after a 1 all draw. Lucky Ngosa and Agent Mwemba scored for their respective teams.
Airport Warriors cast out Young Napsa Stars from the top 5 with a 1 nil win at Chakunkula ground through Jonathan Daka’s goal. Airport is now closing the top 5 brackets with 21 points while Young Napsa drops to number 6 with 20 points.
Riflemen moved to third place following a 2-0 win over struggling Young Zanaco as they are just 4 points behind joint leaders Young buffaloes and Misisi Academy. Edgar Tembo and David Chikenge scored a goal each to guide the Army side into the top three brackets. Young Zanaco still on the bottom of the table.
After going 4 games without a win, Sable Bulls had something to smile about as they set a new story after a 1-0 win over Chongwe united. Thanks to Watson Mufune’s goal.
Going into the match with an unbeaten run, their race was stopped at Independence stadium in the presence of their boss, the Lusaka mayor. Lusaka City Council went 12 games without a defeat this season with 5 wins and 7 draws. The Young Green Buffaloes forced them to set yet another record with a brutal 4-0 bashing. LCC who was third on the table went down to fourth place whereas Buffaloes reclaimed their top slop that they momentarily lost a few weeks ago.
Three defeats in a row, Chainda have had a bad path in March. In week 20 they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home at the hands of Misisi Academy with Peter Moyo making a return on the pitch from suspension with a goal.
Misisi went into the match sitting on top and despite the win, they dropped to second place after Young Green Buffaloes’ heavy win gave them a better goal difference.
