Zambian midfielder Natasha Witika has joined Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) defending champions Delta Queens following the expiry of her contract with another Nigerian club, Bayelsa Queens.
Witika joined Delta Queens, a team that is based in Asaba, Delta Region recently as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their quest to defend their title.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the ZamFoot Community Reporter, Moses Pedro Mwanza, from her base in Asaba, Witika is elated about the move and describes the Nigerian League as competitive.
“Am excited to join Delta Queens, it is not easy but God has always been on my side and I look forward to taking on my new challenge,” she said.
“The Nigerian league is competitive, every team is capable of winning the league. It is all about power play here and that requires one to be more physical with enough strength as well as you need to be a quick thinker both on and off the ball in order to excel. “
Witika is the first Zambian female footballer to ply her trade in Nigeria, she joined Bayelsa in 2022 and made her debut on 17th May, 2022 on match day 2 in the Super 6 match against Naija Ratels before emerging as Champions of the Nigerian Women’s League.
Witika went on to feature in a good number games for the Prosperity Girls based in Yenagoa before she was joined by a fellow Zambian from Indeni Roses Mwaka Mupeta at the same club that represented Nigeria in the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League held in Ivory Coast.
Witika, a product of Chiparamba Breakthrough under the tutelage of Coach Edson Siaulutaba a seasonal coach in Women’s Football alongside Saidi Leviticus had a stint in Tanzania as the first Zambian female footballer to ply her trade in that country playing for the likes of Tiger Queens based in Arusha from Division One and emerged as club top goalscorer in 2021 with 10 goals.
In that season, she was instrumental in the middle of the park and helped her team earn promotion from Tanzanian Women’s first Division League (WFDL) to the Serengeti Lite Premier League which is a top tier of Tanzanian football earning a nickname of Rasta Girl because of her dreadlocks.
Witika also played for ZESCO Ndola Girls from the Copperbelt Province of Zambia before moving to Tanzania in 2020 where she featured for Tiger Queens.
