Zambia U-20 national team forward Chipyoka Songa has revealed that the Young Copper Bullets have set their sights on qualifying to the Africa Cup of Nations.
The ZESCO United winger says the team is ready for the tournament and wants to return to the tournament which the country has missed since winning it back in 2017.
“Training is going okay, We are preparing very well, We are ready for the tournament,”he said.
“It’s a very important tournament, I don’t remember the last time we qualified for the AFCON, our target is to qualify for the AFCON. Before we qualify, we have to reach the final.”
“It’s very important, we have missed on two occasions so this one is a do or die,” he added.
Zambia were drawn with hosts Eswatini, Botswana and Mauritius in Group A. Songa believes the team should be cautious and not underrate any team in the group.
Songa has also revealed that there is a lot of competition in the team. The former Lusaka Dynamos man has also urged the fans to support the team.
“We don’t have to underestimate them, they are good teams, we just have to work hard and go and prove ourselves on that side,” he said.
“The Competition is high especially because we have different players from different leagues so it’s a combination of mindsets, it’s very good that we are combining in such a way.”
“My message to the fans is to always support us, encourage us, give us confidence and we will make Zambia proud,” he added.
The 2022 COSAFA U20 Men’s Championship will be held from October 6-16 in Eswatini.
The tournament in Eswatini will be used as a qualifier for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Only the finalists will qualify for the continental showpiece to be held in Egypt.
