Rejuvenated Zesco Victoria Falls beat newcomers Chikuni Coops 2-0 at the Vic falls grounds on Saturday in their seasonal opener.
A Goal in each half by former Nampundwe forward Josphat Zulu was enough to give the Zesco sponsored side a good start compared to last season where they lost without kicking the ball because of delay in cards.
The Spinning Turbines opened the scoring in the 32nd minute through a well-taken penalty kick by Josphat Zulu as he was brought down by a coops defender in the 18-yard box. He took it upon himself and curled it down the left corner giving chikuni coops goalkeeper no chance of saving it.
After the goal, Zesco crawled into a defensive shell and allowed the visitors to dominate play which they failed to make use of as the hosts held onto their lead till halftime.
In the second half, the visitors began from where they left off and nearly equalized with a long-range shot from Zamaya but his shot missed the target by inches.
Zesco grabbed their second goal through Josphat who tapped it in from close range in the 80th minute finishing off a cross from the right to complete his brace.
This result brought relief to coach Enock Sakala and his entire technical team while assistant coach Joe “Chicken” Laishi lauded his lads for a good game.
