Provincial D1: Chongwe United awarded three points in the abandoned match against Paramilitary

FAZ Division 1 Lusaka Province outfit Chongwe United Fc have received a boost in their current league campaign after FAZ ruled in their favor in one of their abandoned matches.

The match was a week 9 clash away to Paramilitary at Miller Grounds that was abandoned on January 10, 2021, with Chongwe United leading by a goal to nil.

The cause of the abandonment came when Paramilitary equalized in a controversial situation, a goal that was later ruled out for an offside in the build-up, a decision that did not seat well with Paramilitary as they protested the decision.

Amidst the protest, one Paramilitary fan believed to be a police officer, produced a firearm, an action that led to match officials canceling the game for their safety and that of the players.

The case was tabled before the FAZ Disciplinary Committee on June 20, 2021, and it awarded Chongwe United a 3-0 win after a long wait of close to six months.

However, the country’s football governing body could not issue any disciplinary action on the said officer for his conduct because they do not have the power to do so. But they further urged the Zambia Police Command to take appropriate action and discipline the said officer so that such conduct is not repeated by their officers.

Chongwe United is still sitting at bottom of the table as they still wait for other rulings on the remaining 2 abandoned matches against Misisi Youth Academy at Katwishi ground where they were leading 1-0 and against Irwin Rangers at Kyindu ground where they were leading 3-0.
