Preview: Zambia look to maintain winning streak against Costa Rica

The Zambia U20 national team will be back in action tomorrow morning when they play Costa Rica in the final group match at the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Korea Republic.

It’s a match of no consequence but boosting morale for the young Chipolopolo after they were confirmed group C winners when they beat Iran 4 – 2 with Costa Rica and Portugal playing to a 1 – 1 draw on the same day.

Coach Beston Chambeshi will be looking to keep the winning momentum which has seen the team win all competitive matches played since it was assembled last year.

Despite skipper Solomon Sakala being ruled out of the game owing to suspension, Zambia will not be looking to throw away an illustrious record of 12 wins on the trot in competitive outings.

Costa Rica have played 7 games this year at the CONCACAF U20 finals and the on-going World Cup finals and they have only managed two wins with three losses in those games.

They showed character in the last game when they came from behind to hold Portugal, a result which gave them everything to play off in tomorrow’s game as they have a chance to qualify if they win.

By finishing top of group C, the African Champions have earned a second round fixture against one of the third placed teams in either group A, B or F.

With Germany missing out on an automatic qualification on goal difference in Group A, Zambia are currently looking to be on a collision course with ‘Deutsch land boys’ though the teams will be confirmed after tomorrow’s games.

Bestone Chambeshi is likely going to make only two changes to the starting XI.

Patson Daka who was impressive against Iran coming off the bench is expected to start ahead of Conlyde Luchanga whiLe Benson Chali is expected to earn the right to partner Moses Nyondo in central defense.

The free-scoring dream team arrived in Cheonan where they will play tomorrow’s game yesterday and they trained at the stadium today.

The fly back to Jeju where they play their second round lockout game after the match.

Probable Line-up

Mangani Banda, Prosper Chiluya, Shemmy Mayembe, Moses Nyondo, Benson Chali, Boyd Musonda, Emmanuel Banda, Enock Mwepu, Edward Chilufya, Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala

  1. This could be the best time to meet Germany and avenge that 4-0 (I think) we suffered in 1988 Seoul Olympics loss after we had beaten Italy 4-0. Klinsman was at his peak and he had demolished us almost single handedly! Should we play them, this time we can do better! Go Zambia, go!

    • HAHAHAHAHAHA LOL- EVEN THE GERMANS FOUND IT DIFICULT
TO BEAT -VANAUATU 3 GOALS TO 2; U DAMN RIGHT MAY BE.

LETS SEE WOT THE YOUNG CHIPOS WILL DEAL WITH COSTA RICA.

  2. Guys, are we gauranteed to top the group? If Iran beats Portugal by a big enough margin, they could top this group. I know it seems impossible, but let’s just assume.

  3. No need to risk players to injury, the coach should give game time to the the other players. It’s common practice to rotate a squad, that’s how you win tournaments.

  4. Good luck to the boys.
Zamfoot I have seen on your poll for Man of The Match against Iran. There is no Body Musonda. The guy had a an outstanding game in midfield.
My MOTM with Fashion Sakala send. What a game the young man had. Come on Zamfoot. Let’s not recognize the strikers alone.
