Zambian champions Power Dynamos produced a spirited and authoritative performance to defeat Moroccan heavyweights RS Berkane 2-0, reigniting their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League quarterfinal hopes in front of an electrified home crowd on Saturday.
Backed by passionate local support, Abayellow showed belief, intensity and tactical discipline as goals from Ronnel Manyanga and Prince Mumba handed the Kitwe giants one of their most important continental victories in recent years.
Power Dynamos took control from the opening whistle, pressing high and moving the ball confidently against a Berkane side known for their experience on the African stage. Winger Manyanga was at the heart of everything going forward and went close twice in the opening half, while the Zambian champions continued to ask questions of the Moroccan defence. Despite their dominance, the teams went into the break level at 0-0.
The breakthrough came moments after the restart, sending the home fans into raptures. Just two minutes into the second half, Manyanga reacted quickest inside the box to steer a left-footed finish into the centre of the goal from close range, following a well-weighted assist from Daniel Adoko.
With Berkane pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser, Power Dynamos remained organised and composed, drawing strength from the terraces. Their determination was rewarded deep into stoppage time when midfielder Prince Mumba sealed the win in the 92nd minute, finishing clinically after connecting with a clever assist from Chifundo Mphasi.
The result lifts Power Dynamos level on seven points with RS Berkane in Group A and keeps Zambian hopes alive heading into the decisive final round of matches. Oswald Mutapaโs men now face a must-win away clash against Egyptian side Pyramids FC next Saturday. They will also be hoping fellow group opponents RS Berkane fail to collect maximum points when they host bottom-placed Rivers United.
For Power Dynamos and Zambian football fans alike, the victory stands as a reminder that local clubs can still compete and prevail against Africaโs elite when belief, organisation and home support come together.
