Players await unpaid CHAN dues

WITH three weeks to go before the African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament kicks off in Morocco, Chipolopolo players are still waiting for their allowances and bonuses for the qualifiers.

Zambia beat Swaziland 3-0 at home and 4-0 away, then beat South Africa 2-0 before drawing 2-2 away to qualify to the finals.

However, players currently in camp who participated in the qualifiers have complained that they had to date only paid for the draw against South Africa.

The players talked to complained that they felt betrayed that even after qualifying without losing a game, they are worried that they may not get their bonuses as the tournament draws near.

“We know we are working for the nation and the nation expects a lot from us. But surely, how can people expect you to be at your best without being paid anything from the qualifiers? We are asking ourselves what wrong we did by qualifying to the tournament,” said a player who sought anonymity.
“There have been promises after promises. Now all the players are in camp for the final tournament without being paid. This affects the unity of purpose and morale ahead of such a big tournament. People expect results from these players but how do you get results under these circumstances? Whoever is supposed to pay us should pay us before we fly out to Morocco. I think that will just be fair enough rather than go into the tournament with a backlog of unpaid dues from the qualifiers.”

Several inside sources shared similar sentiments over the matter.

Efforts to get comments from FAZ proved futile as both president Andrew Kamanga and general secretary Ponga Liwewe’s phones were off as they are believed to be in Egypt on CAF business. FAZ communications manager Desmond Katongo referred all questions to Liwewe.

  1. This is why, The Faz administration should not expect a lot from the coach and players,if they are not paid on time.it is unfair to blame the players and the coach when, they don’t perform well. Will blame FAZ if they perform badly. It’s not good to test the players loyalty to the country, if they don’t pay them.

  2. Icikwanka bacimwena kumampalanya, elo futi Umubili waba kukuboko, sure baFAZ but you are busy paying yourselves even Christmas bonuses but you cant look into players needs. Where is Pilato by the way not Alex Ngonga but the musician to sing a song for FAZ. Save yourselves from the embarrassments and pay the players.

  3. You crucified Moses Sichone of being unpatriotric for coming out on issues of allowances and snubing national team call ups, so does this mean the current players are not patric and should play for the team without allowances and bonuses?
