Player profile: Loveness Tonge a goalkeeper with high ambitions

Zambian Women’s Football has recently hit higher strides in all angles which have seen the birth of more Provincial Leagues across the country with almost all provinces having an active league.

Last year, The Zambia Correctional Service (ZSC) through Prisons decided to start up a women’s team in Kabwe and it did not as the birth of Prison Leopards Queens came shortly after, a team which is under the Correctional Service.

Well, today we profile one of the rising and determined young players and goalkeeper for the Correct Ladies, Loveness Tonge who made a switch from town rivals Queens Academy to join Prisons.

Tonge was born 18 years ago on November 8, 2003, and she has so far played for Kabwe Celtic Queens before joining Queens Academy in the same Province and she now turns up for Prison Leopards Queens who are making their maiden appearances in the 2020/21 FAZ Women’s League under Central Province Zone A.

The Correct Ladies have played 2 games in this 2020/21 campaign and Tonge has kept a clean sheet in both matches where they edged Katondo Queens and Ngalande Queens with a 5-0 scoreline in both games managing 10 goals.

Tonge is inspired by National Women’s Team goalkeeper Hazel Nali, who plays for the Israeli side Hapoe Bee’ Sheva in the Israeli Women’s League.

Tonge’s dream is to play overseas and also for the National Team and watching videos on youtube helps her to shape up so well especially when it comes to reflexes as she is always up and running doing her personal training.
