219 COSAFA U-20 player of tournament Patrick ‘Bomber’ Gondwe returned from his eight days of trials in Spain on Tuesday after his exploits at the COSAFA tournament earned him the opportunity.
Gondwe attended training sessions at CD Numancia who are currently competing in the prestigious LaLiga Smartbank Spain’s second division, second only to the exalted LaLiga Santander.
The Nkana midfielder opened up about his trip in an interview with the ZamFoot Crew talking about the weather conditions and the reception.
“I was very happy to be chosen as the player of the tournament. It was really a great opportunity for me and I really thank God,” he said.
” The reception was great. The weather is very different and was a bit challenging for me. It is winter there and very cold with a little bit of snow.”
My first training was hard for me because it was cold I needed to adapt and they usually train at night which was my first time to do so
“There were many players but I first had personal training to recover. The training started intensifying as it went on and we had a friendly match on the third day and I played a full game,” he added.
The decision to whether sign Gondwe on not by the Spanish club will be known this weekend and he is hoping he did enough to impress them so that he can return to Spain.
“The players were very welcoming and they were happy with my input in the friendly match. We had a good interaction with the coaches.
“The facilities in Spain are very good. It was awesome to have such an experience.
“I can say I had good trials there and am hoping for the best at the end of this week. The coaches and some officials we’re very happy with me.
“Hopefully so, feedback is expected by the end of this week.”
Gondwe was a stand out performer at the 2019 COSAFA U-20 tournament scoring two goals and being involved in most of the Zambia attacks throughout the tournament helping them to lift the title.
