Mufulira Wanderers striker Henry Omollo provided an assist as Kenya Under-23 made a flying start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 4-1 victory over Tanzania.
Omollo started for the Harambee Stars at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium and played 60 minutes, setting up Paul Osama for Kenya’s opening goal inside the first two minutes.
Lawrence Okoth doubled the hosts’ advantage in first-half stoppage time before captain Kevin Wangaya made it 3-0 five minutes after the restart.
Tanzania pulled a goal back through Shekhan Khamis from the penalty spot in the 54th minute, but Kenya restored their three-goal advantage when Kelly Madada struck in the 75th minute.
The emphatic victory gives Kenya a commanding advantage heading into the second leg in Dar es Salaam on 6 October 2026.
Kenya will advance to the second qualifying round, where they would face Côte d’Ivoire, if they successfully see out the tie.
The 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations finals will be staged in Egypt, with the tournament also serving as a pathway to Olympic qualification.
