Barely 24 hours after beating Kenya in a 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier, there’s a widespread feeling that interim Chipolopolo Boys coach George Lwandamina should be given the mantle to take charge of the team on a permanent basis, Zambianfootball.co.zm understands.
According to reports from Football House, the Ministry of Sports officials have already pressed the button and asked FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya to have another look at Lwandamina’s credentials.
“Ever since Lwandamina took over there has been some positive vibe around the team,” an insider said.
“He seems to have matured from the person who used to have grudges with players. He personally phoned some of the foreign based players and explained what he expected from them and they also voiced their concerns.
While his predecessor Honour Janza’s stance of overhauling the old guard almost wrecked the team’s fortune, Lwandamina has tried to have a spine of experienced players.
Lwandamina also wants to blood-in youngsters.
According to the ZamFoot Crew sources, government is expected to table a $10, 000 per month contract to Lwandamina next week.
At Zesco United, Lwandamina is getting around $2,000 per month while an expatriate coach wants $25, 000.
“The stumbling block is that Kalusha has already head hunted for an expatriate coach.
The government is of the view that Lwandamina is ready for the big job. A win over Gabon on Tuesday night will consolidate his case.
Should FAZ agree to government’s proposal then the former Green Buffaloes and Red Arrows’ coach will be handed a 3 year contract.
He will continue as Zesco United coach until the end of the season.

Noooooooo!!!!!!
so jst becoz u win against Kenya & u want to give him a contract. give him a contract if he manages to qualify zambia to afcon
We stil need an expatriate coach
what do you need an expatriate coach for?
If “expatriate” is all we want, its sad. An expatriate will do nothing. However, a great coach who is able to relate his expertise to the players and motivate them to perform, is what we need. Not an expatriate coach. If there is no zambian with those skills, then you can look for “expatriate.”
Look at all the “top” national team coaches, their achievements are flip flop. He succeeds with one team, flops wit another. What every cach needs, local and expatriate, is to grow.
Lol. I love your comment. It seems being a foreigner i.e. expatriate is now a qualification to coach.
haha to save money and to kalusha to have more money in his pocket they want to assign it to local coach $10k instead of $25K, FAZ is very smart but people are not stupid,
Give him at least 3 more games we see how he is going to fare. In these three games no stories of saying we are building a team. Let’s gauge him also on how he will relate with the players and his call ups on both the old and new players. Let him also have a free will to select his assistants on the technical bench, maybe he can end up with names that will help him to exile like Patrick Phiri. Like this he will put in extra efforts to get the job. At the pace at which he is doing the Job, he is in the right direction especially beating the so called Bob williamson the white tactician at home. Credits to Lwandamina
My bro u hv hit the nail!
Impulsive reaction. With that defending we saw yesterday? Come on. Be serious Mwe bantu
Just imagine
Very impulsive indeed
Agreed. One win and all of a sudden he is the one. Let’s see some consistency first, then we can decide.
Govt should hold the fire. I do not understand either how they arrive at such conclusion. What qualifies Govt to chose who the coach for the National team is gonna be? We saw this with Bonetti, and we all know the story, it did not just work
Instead of rushing to making announcements, GRZ should have sat down with FAZ and have this issue discussed, and after that make an announcement, otherwise this sounds more like dictatorship
The position of coach is not a political appointment, whereby persons are appointed at random.
Having said all this I feel the salary is very good enough
I personally don’t think it’s the right time to give him a contract. He failed to beat one small team and managed to beat another. What real big test has he had yet? If we are to gauge him, then we should do it on all levels starting from the lowest to the highest and only then can we know if he is ready or not.Faz should organise high profile friendlies to test Chicken.
We playing Gabon tomorrow evening, should be a big test for him.
Yes we know we are block & we will not manage an expertriate coach. But cheap is expensive.
Constipated response, wait until you loose Chicken. What was the reaction after the 0-0 score line against GBissau. This is drama at its worst. If am. Lwandamina, I would pocket the $10,000. And wait to be. Fired later
You cannot use one or two matches as a yardstick to determine that Lwandamina is game for the job. What criteria is being used here? An unconvincing win against Kenya and we’re already being carried away? Gosh!
Its like some people are living in dreamland. All of a sudden, there are call to give Lwandamina a contract. Tusheni. I can liken this call to making decisions while drunk. If you give Chicken the contract and then he fails to qualify the team to the AFCON, you will be the first ones to call for his blood, and get him fired. Just given him sometime and pay him well for now.
In Short: No contract for George for now. Its too early to call.
Just because he wins one game and they want to offer this character a contract?? Am not convinced this man is good enough. He’s not fit for this job he’s only fit as an assistant. Lwandamina won’t take us anywhere but turn us into losers like his tonga friend did.
DONT TRY FAZ WE WON BY LUCKY WE WERE UNDER PRESURE
DONT RISK FAZ WE WON BY LUCK
What more information do you need. George LWANDAMINA is a proven coach and doing very his team is topping the league, he managed to bench Mtonga and played Jack Chirwa.for me he has matured into a national coach with a serious pedigree. Give him a contract!
“George LWANDAMINA is a proven coach and doing very his team is topping the league”
Can you tell us what he has done for ZESCO in the Champions league? Nothing. His level is that of winning the ZPL and et ends there
If Govt are serious about employing Lwandamina as coach, then let them send him to Germay or another European Country for a 5 to 6 months course. If he departs on 01.10.2015, he will be back at the end of February 2016. After qualifying or if, then another course. Not this useless ma FIFA licence fimo fimo, that anyone can attain
late us be serias do u think lwandamina can win afcon or take us to the world cup?
Yes Chicken is up to the challenge he can deliver. No need to hire an expariate coach ,sheer waste of resources in this hard and biting economic situation.
Just beating Minows kenya? the way we played in the second half if it was teams like ghana, Tunisia, algeria, cameroon, nigeria, egypt, congo brazzaville we would have lost that game.
Lwandimina cannot take zambia to the required level. That means qualifying to the world cup. From what we have seen do you honestly think he can take us far. We failed to beat guinea bissau and beat Namibia on penalties in the chan. The answer is no
Attitude John Attitude! the way you talk and think(mentality) no Coach will ever succeed in Zambia. You guys also contribute to the downfall of some players coz you are so negative like the English soccer fans. Players must just cultivate their own confidence and rise above the negative vibes of Zambians. Awe mwe! mucinje mwe!
How many of you can work without a contract? be reasonable and expatriate coach come without winning a game but already with a contract in their hands. I don’t like this that’s why We Africans will never develop coz We respect colour, please motivate the Guy by having faith in Him. Why do west African local coaches succeed? coz they have confidence in their own. Zambians are the most negative and impatient people I have ever seen. Almost three quarters of the Chipolopolo past Coaches were destroyed by fans and soccer administrators.
Fans cannot destroy coaches; results do!
Paddy Paddy Paddy! The thing is you talk about things you don’t have knowledge on, the design itself of a stadium comes from the Roman times, watch or google gladiators and then observe the colosseum is there any difference with the stadium? so tell me how on earth can someone build the stadium if fans are not important? please answer that teaser.
So you who talk about things you are knowledgeable about; can you tell me where in my comment did I say that fans are not important. Do you even understand yourself? I didn’t think so either.
You said Fans can not destroy Coaches; results do! end of quote. to dissect your comment I would end up with major definitive words as in Fans, destroy, Coaches and results these are the roots of your sentence. Therefore, when you look up the definition of the above words it tells me that you are indicating that the fans have no bearing to the coach or even the players’ performance outcome and you are forgetting that you too are either a Fan or a Fanatic. I do understand myself and I respect your position after all if we all ascribe to the same opinion then there will be no movement into better grounds. I love your and other bloggers’ castigation of the system (FAZ) it is fruitful. I, too, don’t support the somewhat indiscreet activities of the system as it ploughs our soccer into futility.
No u should’nt be that fast jst b’coz we won 1 game & they ar many gamz to play..plz b patient and give him 3 to 4 games to c if hz fit for the team
There is no local coach that can take us anywhere they are tactically inept
They are not inept the problem is administration and negativity of Zambians, it brings down the morale of the players….
I believe We rich higher heights if we believe, the only problem is we don’t believe.
Football is not religion where we believe by faith. It is performance and result based.
believing is not about religion, why are you on this site? you don’t even know the people moderating your comments and the other commentators. The fact is you believe this is the way you can contribute so no matter what you say you live what you believe!
Does it matter if I know or don’t know the people moderating my comments? Dude are you ok upstairs?
And Mind you Soccer is a religion that why the apamwambas invest a lot of mula(money) into it.
Get some rest. It’s way past your bedtime.
if lwandamina wil be given a contrac congo wil qualify from our group, mark my words.
You have said it because you don’t believe whether a Christian or not this law is written in our cells believe and you will excel period.
Last time I bought a lottery ticket I believed I’d win millions – I didn’t.
its because you were gambling, hoping to get what you don’t have instead of multiplying what you have.
Ba mudala imwe easy apa. From football matters now you want to lecture me? I don’t know you and you don’t know me so let’s just leave it that way.
Sorry(ndicela undixolele mfetu – please forgive me my friend) Paddy if I hate your feelings, I am just trying to contribute I am not saying you don’t know a thing. Actually I have been on this blog for a long time and I cherish your contributions I know a lot of guys on this blog by their pseudo names and I respect their opinions after all this is a debate forum to take soccer in our Country to higher heights.
No hard feelings. We all have different perspectives from whicih to express our views. Cheers
No hard feelings. We all have different perspectives from which to express our views. Cheers
we still need a very experienced coach, don’t even go there.
if you watch the game yesterday u can agree that lwandamina wil not take us very far coz we were nearly to draw or loosing that game.
if we wil play the way we played against kenya, gabon wil beat us tomorow mark my words.
if we wil play the way we played against kenya gabon wil beat wil beat us tomorow mark my words.
George Lwandamina may be the coach of the leading team in Zambia but he is tactically deficient. The game plan that he executed yesterday could have backfired. You can’t be defending a narrow lead so deep in your area against a weak team like Kenya. To make matters worse, he has introduced unsportsmanlike behaviour in the team of feigning injuries. That was disgraceful to the nation. You can’t introduce two rookies in defence at the same time. This guy will take us nowhere with chipantepante football.
Those who are criticizing George don’t understand the game of football. In yesterday’s game we were tactically better than Kenya. Kenya had more ball possession but did not have the tactic to unlock the Zambian defence and therefore ran out of ideas. Having more possession does not necessarily mean you are in control of the game. Maybe he gambled on the selection of the two youngsters Boyd and Benedict but upon realizing that the Kenyans were taking advantage of the inexperience of the two lads he had no choice but defend the lead. The result is more important. Against Congo we need Kabaso, Mbola or Lawrence Changu. Congrats Chipolopolo!
The result was the only positive thing from the match. Would be interesting to see player ratings.
Do you think Mbesuma knew He would score when He received a pass from Kalengo? no no no but He had confidence that if He kicked the ball towards the corner of the goal He would score. You listen too much to fake Pastors who tell you to plant a seed so that you can harvest much whilst you the capabilities you are endowed with from the most high. The same the Coach needs the players and fans to rally behind Him not being negative all the time.
I meant you have the capabilities.
Oh please, not this crap again.
After some constructive criticism it has been unanimously concluded that George “Chicken” Lwandamina should in this manner assert himself with conclusive performance to convince the Zambian people and soccer fans as a whole and then will Government and FAZ move forward to give him a long term contract. The latter can not be achieved without a formal heated debate, We need to argue out reasons why our Tax payers money should be paid out to certain individuals without conclusively determining their performance. Please Paddy don’t give up when you have a point mostly you need to stand your ground!!!!! We Zambians give up to quickly even though we are on the right. Kukosapo nga pamukonso wakwa mukolwe the Zulus say Amandla!(power) awethu!(ours)
Silliness
Don’t give him a contract yet give him three more games and two games should wins and one draw, than give him a contract them one win is not good
We still need an expatriate.Chicken kuwayawayafye
Which expatriate apart from Hervé Renard whom you insulted day in and out brought you results? The problem is that most Zambians are inferior to themselves, so when you talk about expatriate the picture in your mind is white “Umusungu”. This is a disease which will take millenniums to heal.
It’s good we won the game but our Coach got it wrong when he told his players to start defending as early as the 55th minute. Yashani? He came up with a win under difficult circumstances but i fee he is technically naive. I don’t think he can come up with a win when playing teams like Ghana, Algeria, Ivory Coast. This is where H.Renard stands out. “Chicken George” is not the best coach going forward we need someone who can read the game tactically and technically and not just give instructions.
The man cannot qualify Zambia to the World Cup or even get us out of the Group stage at the Nations Cup.
This is how politicians think by impulse! You can not give him a contract just because he won one game.
Well said sir. What more can we say?
It’s shortsighted by government. We need an expatriate coach.
If money is a problem, pay less for the coach 15 thousand dollars is better than 25.
Maybe Govt can tell us on what basis they decided to give the job to Lwandamina. Is it because the Govt is broke and can’t pay for a qualified and experienced coach or do they genuinely feel the man is ready for the job. The FAZ chairman not long ago said that no Zambian was qualified to coach the National team. What is it that has changed now? Please tell us
guys lets not waste our time arguing kalu is the one who is coaching zambia with a remote control and i do not foresee him giving that marooned coach a contract.i have said so judging by the team selection. kalu’s hand is involved.
the people who made the decision to give the local coach a contract those are the people who celebrate a goal if zambia wins a corner.
