Konkola Blades brought Nkana FC’s three-match winning run to an end with a 2-0 victory, while Chirundu United continued their impressive form with a second consecutive win in the MTN Super League Transitional Season on Sunday.
Green Buffaloes also secured an important away victory, beating Kabwe Warriors 2-1 to complete an eventful Week Five programme.
At Konkola Stadium, Blades produced a disciplined performance to halt Nkana’s momentum, scoring once in each half to secure maximum points.
Emmanuel Kunda opened the scoring in the 34th minute, giving the hosts the advantage before Idriss Ilunga Mbombo doubled their lead three minutes into the second half with a speculative effort that found the back of the net.
Nkana, who had entered the fixture on the back of three consecutive victories, were unable to find a response as Konkola Blades held firm to claim an important win.
In Kabwe, Green Buffaloes overcame Warriors 2-1, with second-half goals from Paul Mbuyi and Golden Mashata putting the visitors in control before a late consolation.
Mbuyi broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, rising highest to power home a header and give the Nyanta Boys the lead.
Golden Mashata extended Buffaloes’ advantage nine minutes later with an excellent chip over the goalkeeper, putting the visitors in a commanding position.
Kabwe Warriors pulled one back in stoppage time through former Green Buffaloes midfielder Charles Majapa Mumba, who produced a superb direct free-kick in the 90th minute, but it proved too late to deny the visitors all three points.
Meanwhile, Chirundu United continued their positive start to the campaign with a narrow 1-0 away victory over Mufulira Wanderers.
Andrew Simumba proved the difference between the sides, scoring in the 27th minute with a well-taken free-kick to hand Chirundu the lead.
The visitors defended their advantage to secure their second consecutive victory, building on the progress they have made since their historic first-ever Super League win earlier in the transitional campaign.
The results provided a significant boost for Konkola Blades, Green Buffaloes and Chirundu United as the battle for early-season momentum continued in both streams of the MTN Super League.
