Nkana out of top 10 as ‘The Elite’ take top spot

Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi lost the second game on the trot since taking charge of the former champions, this time going down to average Nkwazi yesterday.

The loss comes three days after a painful loss to crosstown arch-rivals Power Dynamos at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe when his lads recorded a facsimile score.

Chambeshi collapsed into lamentations: “It makes me feel bad that from the time I took over, the team has failed to win, it’s painful. We need to work on the defence and frontline.”

But he may find solace in the fact that his most-prized asset, Walter Bwalya, also known as Binene Sabwa across the Kasumbalesa border, found the back of the net in a Week 13 match.

Walter headed in a Simon Bwalya cross in the 38th minute after Nkwazi had taken the lead through Edward Mwamba in the fourth minute.

Mwamba connected Kennedy Lungu’s throw-in.

Nkwazi went in front when striker Justin Shonga nodded in Eric Chomba’s corner on 50 minutes.

Walter, who is being probed by the Immigration Department over his nationality, saw his goal-bound shot blocked by defender Gilbert Tembo in the 40th minute.

Tembo also cleared on the line Austin Muwowo’s shot in the 43rd minute.
Nkwazi goalkeeper Charles Muntanga saved Walter’s shot on 56 minutes.

“My players always put up impressive performances whenever they are playing high-profile teams. The win is a morale booster going in the next match against Zesco United,” Nkwazi coach Albert Mphande said.
Nkwazi have 20 points while Nkana are stuck with 16.

Power’s match against Zesco United was postponed because of the latter’s involvement in the Confederation Cup.

Buffaloes’ best chance to equalise was on 64 minutes when Kitwe referee Evans Mulenga awarded the hosts a penalty after Lee Addy hacked Diamond Chikwekwe.
