Nkana settle for a former boss of their rivals Kelvin Kaindu as new head coach

Zambia Super League side Nkana has confirmed the appointment of former Power Dynamos and Buildcon as their new head coach.

This is according to a statement issued by the club’s media and public relations officer Lillian Musenge availed to the ZamFoot Crew. Kaindu will be assisted by Kaunda Simonda.

“Nkana football club has appointed former Buildcon football club coach Kelvin Kaindu as it’s new head coach, with immediate effect. Current Nkana first assistant coach Kaunda Simonda will assist Kaindu.

Kaindu takes over the mantle from Manfred Chabinga who has been caretaker coach since separating on mutual consent with current Kansanshi Dynamos Dynamos coach, Beston Chambeshi.”

Kaindu returns to the city of Kitwe as coach for the second time after coaching Nkana’s bitter rivals Power Dynamos between 2018 and 2019 after returning to Zambia from neighboring Zimbabwe where he coached Highlanders, Triangle, and How Mine Football clubs.

Nkana President Joseph Silwamba believes Kaindu is the man job because of his vast experience. Silwamba said the decision to bring in Kaindu was aimed at repositioning the club towards defending the league title in the 2020/2021 MTN/FAZ Super League and the clubs’ target of going beyond the group stage of the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League.

“I have no doubt, Mr. Kaindu will be equal to the task as he has vast experience in the coaching job. I, therefore, on behalf of the Executive Committee wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Kaindu on his new role and also welcome him to the Nkana family,” Silwimba said.

Kaindu on the other hand expressed gratitude to the Nkana Executive Committee for allowing him to coach Zambia’s greatest football team.

“I would like to thank the Nkana Executive Committee for according me this opportunity to coach Nkana. It is such an honor and privilege to be given a chance to coach and work with the greatest team in Zambia. My plans are to take Nkana further in the CAF Champions League and of course, I’m looking forward to a fruitful season.”

Kaindu’s first task will be this afternoon when the defending Champions take on bitter town rivals Kitwe United in a derby at Nkana Stadium.

Nkana are currently 14th on the log with 8 points from 7 games played so far but a win today can see them move up 11th or 12th place depending on other results.
