Nkana ordered to repair 2806 seats at Levy Mwanawasa StadiumĀ

Government has ordered Nkana football club to repair 2,806 seats at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium by July 2025.

The verdict was arrived at during a stakeholders meeting held to address challenges and find solutions to growing acts of hooliganism in Zambian  football recently witnessed during the Kitwe derby.

The meeting, which comprised officials from all four teams competing in the ABSA Cup Semi-finals, FAZ , ABSA , Stadia Management  and Government officials, was chaired by Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU.

Of the over 500 seats damaged, over 2,000 that were in a deplorable State at the venue have been added to Nkana’s cost as punishment.

Among the resolutions arrived at is that  security will be doubled at this weekend’s ABSA Cup games to be played in Ndola at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The meeting also agreed that no bottles , or liquid carriers aside plastic cups will be allowed into the stadium going forward across all fixtures whether at  National or club levels.

Other security features to be introduced in order to curb vandalism and promote safety is the installation of CCTV cameras  at  various stadiums.

Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU said this when addressing the press after a closed door meeting with the stakeholders.

He has since urged all four teams participating in the ABSA Cup  and their fans to practice high levels of Sportsmanship and not restore to property damage or violence when the games do not end in their favor.
