Nigeria’s Super Eagles name squad to play Zambia

Nigeria national team Coach Gernot Rohr has named a strong 23-man squad to face Zambia in next month’s Fifa World Cup qualifier.

The 23 man line-up has only three players plying their trade in Africa.

Lille veteran goalkeeper Vincent Enyema is missing from the squad but the list of international stars on Rohr’s list includes Manchester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho alongside Arsenal young sensation Alex Iwobi and Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa.

Others include Kenneth Omeruo, Elderson Echiejile, Ogenyi Onazi, Nosa Igiebor, Brown Ideye and John Obi Mikel.

Invited players are expected to start arriving in Abuja as from October 2, 2016.

The Super Eagles will be hoping for a winning start in their quest to book a ticket for Russia 2018 when they visit Chipolopolo in Ndola on October 9.

  1. As for me I have no confidence in this team why leaving out experience players like chris katongo and you went on to call small boys like shonga our opponent nigeria have called all their best players and you think you can qualify with such kind of players never

  2. We have a players like james chamanga who is scoring week in and week out in china yet he has been left out.Locally we have players like walter bwalya and iddriss mbombo why can’t Faz talk to these players so that they can change their nationality we have seen such things happening in belgian,France and even England why can’t we do the same thing here in zambia look at chelsea diego costal he is from brazil but he plays for spain.so when I call kamanga useless some people will say I’m kalu cadre

  3. RIP chipolopolo…
LooooooooooL. Take a a look at that squad. Like I said before, we will kill u guys in zambia then bury u finally in Nigeria.
The best thing now is for you guys to withdraw cos I don’t see how you will even get a point in the group.
One guy is even clamouring for you guys to call in players playing in china..loooolz. China of all places..loool???.. Zambians see Chinese league like EPL I guess.??.
    West african blood+Naija blood×German style(coach)= Victory.
    Zambia 0-3Nigeria

    • Nigeria is going to get whupped! No ifs, buts, one way ass whupping & best of all; in front of their home fans for the biggest prize in football, a ticket to the world cup, and at the last stage with only a point to qualify. Couldn’t get any better; the stage is set!! Victor Moses is a Chelsea, England, reject, a bench warmer for Diego Costa, Mikel Obi was a fringe player at Chelsea and now ply’s his trade in CHINA; Nigerian players,in Europe, are fringe players. West African players are slow, heavy, with little endurance and ball skills; the German style adds a cherry to the cake of what we are going to do to you! Nigeria will lose with a margin of 7 goals or more. We started the journey in 1993 and will pickup were our fallen brothers left off and knock the super eagles out-cold!

  4. In this group Which ever team fumbles at home is as good as having one leg out the exit door. Levy Mwanawasa / Heroes National stadium should a fortress where it’s a must win scenario noti iguana draw.
So let’s all rally behind technical bench and wish them the best..Our group nikafwafwa but in Wadda we trust!

  5. How I wish to see the combination of Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi with Brown Ideye. With Moses operating from the wings. Of course Mikel will marshal the midfield. Balogun and Ikong will be in the back with Ikeme directing them. If Zambia escape defeat, they will go far I believe. Zambia wll not escape defeat.

    • Brown Ideye, Moses, Mikel Obi and others….. contenders for world players of the year? African footballer of the year? BBC footballer of the year?? Fringe players!

    • Games won: Nigeria 7
      Games drawn: 5
      Games lost: Zambia 5

  6. We can not fear the names of European clubs or Coach but the selection and combination of players on the pitch, that is why I give credit to the only and one late Keshi may his soul rest in peace. The goodness with us we play Zambian football called Bola ya pa Zed and you will come with European football by the time you will be reverting to your typical Nigerian way it will Zam 3-0 Nig.

  7. Let the game start nigeria has young guys doing well in their respective clubs i see them winning narrowly and may top the table at the end of the context.

  8. @DON. we are talking of the super eagles vs chipolopolo here not iceland and England. Why bring up England vs iceland. How about Hungary vs Belgium. Belgium walloped Hungary 4-0. That’s how we will smash the rubber bullets.
    ????

  9. our super eagle are not contain with old player anymore, now we have a talented young boys, in our national football team now. Zambian fans I will advice you to tell your players to hold down the unstoppable talented young boys am about to mention. KELECHI IHEANCHO, ALEX IWOBI, VICTOR MOSES and AMEHD MUSA, mack them very well my prediction. zam 0-2 nig go super eagle go Nigeria

  10. Imwe ba guy experience is the best thing we can use, katongo is still ready to play let him partiner patson abena mwepu not forgetting fashion.we need men who can run with the ball dribbling the way mbesuma does.fashion and kalaba mumbali ninshi nigeria finnish not uyo ngonga ikula

  11. Victor Moses isn’t exactly a contender for World player of the year; he a Chelsea reject, bench warmer for Diego Costa; Mikel Obi was a fringe player at Chelsea and has now found a home playing in China. No Nigerian abroad, is a standout player for their respective teams; most are fringe players. Nigeria is very beatable by a margin of three goals or more! Watch how Chile toyed with Nigeria.

  12. Nigeria will lose to Zambia and Algeria; Zambia’s march to the World Cup started in 1993 and will continue after the 7th October! We stand together if our boys from 1993!
