Namibia to host COSAFA tournament in June

The 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup tournament will be hosted by Namibia from the 11th -25th of June, 2016.

COSAFA announced today, Monday, that the change in dates from the month of May are due to the later than usual end to the South African Premier Soccer League, which contains key players from a number of nations in the region.

“We have decided to move the dates of the COSAFA Castle Cup 2016 so as to give every competing nation the opportunity to bring their best squads to Namibia,” Timothy Shongwe, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said.
Zambia fielded a host of foreign based players at last year’s tournament who included Kennedy Mweene, Nathan Sinkala, Emmanuel Mbola, Bornwell Mwape and Aaron Katebe but were booted out of the tournament at the quarterfinal stage by eventual winners Namibia after losing 5 – 4 on penalties with Mbola missing his spot kick.
Zambia only managed a 3 – 0 win against Ghana in the Plate semi final.

Namibia will be hosting the tournament for the first time.

The 14 members of COSAFA are Angola, Botswana, the Comoros Islands, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, the Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
