With the Zambia Super League season set to kick off on Saturday, Teams are shaping up well for the upcoming season with lots of digging deep in trying to get the best out of their squad and players trying all they could to give the fans when it finally kicks off.
Some teams are having pre-season preparations outside their usual base for a change of scenery and get a breather, One of them was Green Buffaloes who traveled from Lusaka west situated in the capital of Zambia to the tea town of Kawambwa district for a 10 day tight and busy schedule of football preparations.
The ZamFoot Crew was on board to witness all the 10 days happenings which started on 3rd August. The team played a couple of friendlies with the locals and it recorded some big wins with the notable one being the kawambwa select bashing which was played in two halves of 45 minutes each with results being 4-2 and 10-2 after normal playing time.
After the friendly match, The ZamFoot Crew caught up with the Green Buffaloes center back, Frederick Mwimanzi to discuss the preparations of the Zambia Army-sponsored outfit.
“My take on the pre-season so far is that we are trying to coordinate with the guys so that we perform well in the coming season and yes we are shaping up well and things seem to be going according to plan and am pretty confident we will replicate the pre-season mood and form in the league,” Mwimanzi told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview.
The team has spent almost all their energy last season battling a relegation fight, Mwimanzi was asked what he thinks the team needs to do to avoid last season’s woes.
“We need to work hard from the beginning of the season to the end and believe in ourselves and we have set a target as a team which is to win the league.
And aside from that, I have also set personal targets which with collaborative efforts from the team I believe I can achieve. I want to put on a national team jersey and work for the nation that’s my target for this season.”
Green Buffaloes are expected to improve on their league standing from last season’s 9th place finish.
The Army-sponsored outfit will start their campaign with a tricky Lusaka derby at home against Elite, Lusaka Dynamos.
