MUZA stun Power as Trident, Zanaco and ZESCO record big wins in Week Five

FC MUZA moved three points clear at the top of Stream A in the MTN Super League Transitional Season after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions Power Dynamos, while Trident FC, ZANACO and ZESCO United all recorded emphatic wins.

Solomon Mpasela scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute as MUZA continued their impressive start to the campaign, taking their tally to 10 points from four matches.

The Mazabuka-based side now lead Stream A, with Nkana FC second on nine points despite having played one match fewer. ZANACO are third on seven points, while Konkola Blades and Power Dynamos occupy fourth and fifth places respectively on six points each.

Power’s defeat leaves them four points behind MUZA, although they have played the same number of matches as the leaders.

Trident hit Makeni for six

Trident FC delivered one of the most impressive performances of the week, thrashing Makeni All Stars 6-1 at Sentinel Grounds.

Sam Sikasote scored twice in the first half, opening the scoring in the seventh minute from a Jericho Mwila free-kick before doubling his tally in the 43rd minute.

Boyd Kauya added a second in the 16th minute to give Trident a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break.

Gradi Bakodila then struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 63rd and 65th minutes to extend the lead to five goals.

Simon Tembo pulled one back for Makeni in the 81st minute, but Kelvin Mwamba restored Trident’s five-goal cushion six minutes later to complete the rout.

The victory lifts Trident to sixth in Stream A on four points, while Makeni remain bottom with one point from four matches. Their goal difference of -9 underlines the scale of their early-season struggles.

ZANACO cruise past Kansanshi Dynamos

Zanaco FC strengthened their position in the top half of Stream A with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kansanshi Dynamos.

Kiala Wa Kiala opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a header, before Araina Lambert doubled the advantage six minutes later.

Lambert completed his brace in the 58th minute to seal a comfortable victory for the Bankers.

The result takes ZANACO to seven points from four matches, leaving them third in the standings, three points behind leaders MUZA.

Kansanshi, meanwhile, remain seventh on four points, level with Trident but separated by goal difference.

Nchanga claim vital win over NAPSA Stars

Nchanga Rangers secured a 1-0 victory over NAPSA Stars, with Mwiza Siwale scoring the only goal in the third minute.

The early strike proved decisive as Nchanga held on to collect three valuable points.

Despite the win, Nchanga remain ninth in Stream A on three points from four matches, with a goal difference of -3. NAPSA Stars sit eighth on three points, having drawn three of their four fixtures.

The result leaves both sides looking to build momentum as the transitional campaign progresses.

ZESCO run riot to end winless start

ZESCO United produced the standout performance in Stream B, hammering Mutondo Stars 5-0 at Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola to register their first victory of the transitional season.

Anthony Shipanuka opened the scoring inside the first minute, giving the hosts an immediate advantage.

Kennedy Musonda then took centre stage, converting a penalty in the 37th minute after Abraham Siankombo was brought down inside the box before scoring again a minute later to put ZESCO firmly in control.

Happy Nsiku added a fourth on the hour mark with a header from a corner, while Elvis Addae completed the rout late in the match after capitalising on a goalkeeping error by Scotch Mwanza.

The victory takes ZESCO to five points from four matches, moving them into second place in Stream B, five points behind leaders Green Eagles, who have played the same number of games.

ZESCO will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s rescheduled Week Three fixture against Roan United as they seek to build on their first win.

Goalless draw keeps Green Eagles top

Stream B leaders Green Eagles were held to a 0-0 draw by Nkwazi, missing the opportunity to extend their advantage at the summit.

Perry Mutapa’s side remain top with 10 points from four matches, having won three and drawn one. Their defensive record remains impressive, with six goals scored and only one conceded.

Nkwazi, meanwhile, are eighth on three points after four matches, with three draws and one defeat.

The result leaves Green Eagles five points clear of ZESCO and Green Buffaloes, although the latter have played one match fewer.

Stream A and Stream B standings

After the latest round of fixtures, MUZA lead Stream A with 10 points, while Green Eagles occupy top spot in Stream B on the same tally.

The league’s transitional format sees the 20 teams divided into two streams of 10, with each club scheduled to play 18 matches. The winners of the two streams will meet in the final on 31 January 2027 to determine the overall champion.

The contrasting fortunes at the bottom of the tables will also be a concern for struggling sides. Makeni All Stars are bottom of Stream A on one point, while Mutondo Stars sit last in Stream B without a point after four consecutive defeats.

With the campaign still in its early stages, the latest results have sharpened the race for the stream finals while increasing the pressure on teams yet to find consistent form.
