Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa has challenged his players to maintain consistency in both performance and results as the MTN Super League champions host Trident in the Transitional League today.
The Kitwe side welcome Trident to Arthur Davies Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 hours, looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Nchanga Rangers in their previous outing.
Joshua Mutale scored the decisive goal as Power collected their first three points of the campaign, leaving them fifth in Stream A. Mutapa now wants his side to build momentum and avoid any dip in standards.
“The training was good. Everyone was available apart from Frederick Milambia, so we had everyone to choose from. We are good to go,” Mutapa said.
Despite the positive preparations, the coach has warned his players against complacency, stressing that consistency will be crucial as the defending champions seek to establish themselves in the competition.
“It’s a game that we need to take seriously to show consistency in terms of how we grind results and the way we perform. There is no need for complacency,” he added.
Mutapa has also cautioned against underestimating Trident, despite their modest return from the opening two matches, describing the visitors as a technically capable side who can cause problems with their possession-based approach.
“They are in the Super League and so far they have collected one point from the two games they have played. We have seen the way they are playing. They are a good team, very good on the ball, but we need to use our experience and play with the right attitude,” he said.
Trident sit seventh in Stream A with one point after losing their opening fixture against Nkana before holding NAPSA Stars to a goalless draw in their latest match.
The visitors will be eager to secure their first victory of the campaign, while Power will be aiming to strengthen their position and build a winning run.
The two sides have met twice before, during the 2023/24 season, with both encounters ending in goalless draws — a record that adds another dimension to today’s meeting.
Mutapa, meanwhile, has expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere in camp, pointing to competition for places as a positive influence on his squad.
“Camp is okay. Everyone is fighting for places. Like I said, we have everyone to choose from, so the mood in camp is very, very okay,” he said.
The Power coach has also called on supporters to turn out in numbers and provide the backing needed as the champions pursue maximum points.
“As always, they should come in numbers and give the moral support that the team needs,” Mutapa added.
Power will be looking to turn their recent victory into a sustained run of positive results, while Trident will hope to upset the champions and kick-start their campaign in Kitwe.
