Zambian striker Kingstone Mutandwa has joined Austrian side SV Oberbank Ried, the club confirmed.
The 22-year-old center forward joins Ried from Italian Serie A side Cagliari Calcio, on a season long loan deal with an option to buy.
Mutandwa will look to follow in the footsteps of players like Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu who had successful spells in Austria.
Mutandwa on the Move
Mutandwa expressed his excitement about joining Ried, saying, “Ried presented me with a project that really excited me. After speaking with the sporting management and learning about the club’s ambitions, I knew this was the right place to develop both as a player and personally.”
Ambitions at Ried
The Sporting Director at SV Oberbank Ried, Wolfgang Fiala, welcomed Mutandwa to the team, saying, “Kingstone Mutandwa is the type of striker we were looking for for our attacking line. He is a fast and physical striker who has already gained experience at the top level in Serie A.”
Mutandwa is eager to make an impact at Ried and help the team succeed this season. “I want to give my best in every game, earn my place in the squad, and help the team succeed this season. I’m here to work hard, get stronger, and have a positive influence on and off the pitch,” he said.
A New Challenge
Mutandwa has been following Austrian football for a while and is impressed by the intensity and tactical discipline of the game. “I’ve been following Austrian football for a while.
It’s intense, with a lot of tactical discipline. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about the fan culture and the passion of the fans here, which motivates me a lot,” he added.
Mutandwa will look to quickly break into the SV Ried starting XI after struggling for game time in Italy.
