Musonda: I feel at home at Pirates and I wont disappoint

The Buccaneers can announce another gem from the Copper belt in the form of striker Mwape Musonda, who was officially registered by the team after receiving his work permit. Orlandopiratesfc.com caught-up with the striker at training yesterday.

Training with Pirates

“I have been training with the guys since we started with the pre-season and I feel ok; the guys have welcomed me and I am feeling at home. I look forward to helping the team and adding to the success that has already been achieved so far.”

Pirates’ style of play

“I played two pre-season friendlies (against Bloemfontein Celtic and Esperanca of Mozambique) so I am getting to gel well with the team, which is encouraging. I am getting used to the style of play and I understand the way the coach wants me to play. I can describe Eric as a good coach; he knows what he wants from his players and all I can say is I promise not to disappoint him or the guys. They have shown a belief in me to perform the role that the team requires.”

Fitting in with the strong striking department

“I have been watching these guys and it has always been my wish to one day play in the PSL. I am honored to play for Orlando Pirates. It is a big team, not just here (in South Africa)… they are an African giant. I can’t wait to get going and look forward to making my debut.”

The mood in the camp

“From what I have seen at training, there is a great team spirit; the guys are happy to see each other doing well (in training or in games) and you can see the brotherhood amongst the players. I feel like I am part of that bond already. There is no individual in this team, just a collective effort, and I know that whenever I get the opportunity to play it will be part of a collective drive to help the team. That is the mentality I have found here and I plan on living by it.”

Background

“I played for Zanaco, one of the biggest teams in Zambia so I have also had a taste of the CAF Champions League. I scored against Pirates at FNB Stadium (Mwape says that with a grin. Better that he is on our side this time). It was a great experience playing against the Bucs because everyone wants to play here and any chance you get against this team you know the eyes will be on you. I knew I had to make it count. Today I am a Pirates player and it’s a dream come true.

Word to the Supporters

“I won’t disappoint them. For the Technical Team to bring me here shows that they believe in me. Now it’s up to me to work hard so the supporters can believe in me too.”

  1. One needs to have an ego to coach not only the Chipolopolo team because of the talent at the desposal hence Mr Janza and Mr E. Lungu Natonal team and country are to big a challenge for these two respectively.

  2. I think this guy will follow in the footsteps of late Ackson Shimbala, Dennis Lota , Collins Mbesuma and Isaac Chansa .These guys were wonderful to watch.
