Zambia Under-17 forward Susan Mulungwa says the Copper Princesses are determined to secure a positive result against France as they look to revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026.
Zambia head into Saturday’s Group D encounter following a painful 3-2 defeat to Venezuela, having conceded a stoppage-time winner despite twice taking the lead.
Mulungwa acknowledged that a lapse in concentration proved costly in the second half but insisted the team had put the disappointment behind them and were ready to focus on their final group fixture.
“It was tough, but we managed to score in the first half. We lost concentration in the second half for a little bit, and they capitalised on that. We lost against Venezuela, and it is now water under the bridge,” Mulungwa said.
With their attention now firmly on France, the forward stressed the importance of determination, hard work and communication as Zambia prepare for a crucial test.
“The game against France is fight and conquer. We will make sure we get a positive result. We are working hard and communicating together. You won’t be disappointed. We are going to get a good result,” she said.
Mulungwa also reflected on the importance of making the most of opportunities at the tournament, emphasising her determination to contribute positively whenever called upon.
“If you are given an opportunity, you have to use it wisely. As for me, I have been given an opportunity, and I am using it very well,” she added.
The Copper Princesses will face France on Saturday, October 24, at 18:00 hours in their final Group D match, knowing that they need a strong performance to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
After two consecutive defeats, Zambia will be looking to turn their determination into results and end the group stage on a high.
