MTN Super League Week 2: The Battles Begin

The MTN Super League is heating up, and week two promises to deliver thrilling encounters that will keep fans on the edge of their seats or so we hope.

After a less than captivating opening weekend, the second week promises to improve and change all that with some exciting encounters with the official betting partner BETWAY Zambia also on hand to offer the best odds for the matches.

The defending Champions, Power Dynamos will be in action after returning from Rwanda where they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of APR in an International Club friendly match.

Last weekend’s winners are looking to build on their momentum. Green Buffaloes, who beat Nkwazi 2-1 with goals from Bornwell Mwape and John Kosamu, will take on Power Dynamos on Sunday.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi’s men will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce against a Power Dynamos side that will be hungry for points.

Abayellow on the other hand will also look to start their title defense with a positive result setting up an electric atmosphere for this showdown.

Nchanga Rangers, who thrashed Mutondo Stars 2-0 last week, will travel to Choma to face Green Eagles. The Eagles themselves are riding high after beating NAPSA Stars 2-0 last weekend, thanks to goals from Collins Sikombe and George ‘Boom’ Chaloba. Coach Perry Mutapa’s side will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce against a Nchanga Rangers side that will be eager to continue their winning form.

Konkola Blades, who were awarded a 3-0 win over ZESCO United after the latter was found to have used ineligible players, will be looking to build on that momentum when they host FC MUZA on Saturday. Benjamin Saeli’s impressive form for Blades will be something to watch out for.

Other exciting matches this weekend include Kabwe Warriors vs FC Leopards, Mufulira Wanderers vs NAPSA Stars, and Nkana FC vs Nkwazi FC

Nkana FC will be looking to get back to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw by Leopards FC last weekend. They have since signed former ZESCO United striker Enock Sakala Jnr, who could make his debut this weekend.

ZANACO FC will be looking to get back to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw by FC MUZA last weekend when they take on Kansanshi Dynamos at the Sunset Stadium.

They have dominated this fixture with four wins and just a single loss in the last seven meetings.

Coach Zeddy Saileti has declared the Mabanga Boys ready to face the Bankers, stating that his team has worked on their mistakes from the barren draw with the Magnificent people’s team, Kabwe Warriors.

“From the last game where we drew against Kabwe Warriors, we’ve worked on our mistakes. It’s been a long week of preparation, and we’re looking forward to getting maximum points. At the moment the team is ready, we’ve done our homework, made the corrections, and I think we’re set for tomorrow’s game,” Saileti said.

“We don’t have major problems in defense; the bigger issue was upfront. We created chances but didn’t convert them. This week we’ve worked on finishing drills and built confidence in our strikers and the team overall so we can be more clinical in front of goal. Winning games in the early stages of the league means we need to score.”

“Zanaco also has a new team. We don’t have a lot of insight on them yet, but with all respect, they’re a big team. Still, we’ll treat this as an important match for Kansanshi and approach it with focus,” he added.

Mufulira Wanderers, who came from a goal down to beat Mines United 2-1 away in Kabwe last weekend, will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce against NAPSA Stars.

NAPSA Stars head coach Sipho Mumbi says this match will show if his side has a strong mentality coming from a loss and facing a team that won in week one.

“It won’t be an easy atmosphere; they are coming from a victory. We are coming from a loss, this game will show, if we are strong,” he said.

“We have been in this situation before where we have lost, and we tell ourselves we have to get back and dust off last week’s disappointments“
