MTN Super League: Survival battles and continental ambition headline Matchweek 18

The MTN Super League returns on Friday with Matchweek 18 serving up a compelling mix of relegation dogfights and continental pursuits, as clubs at opposite ends of the table look to define their seasons.

With pressure mounting at the bottom and the race for Africa intensifying, Kitwe and Mufulira will host three fixtures that could significantly reshape the league standings.

Mutondo Stars vs Nchanga Rangers

Kick-off: 15:00
Venue: Arthur Davies Stadium, Kitwe

Relegation-threatened Mutondo Stars face one of their toughest tests yet when they welcome high-flying Nchanga Rangers, who are pushing hard for a continental football place.

Rangers arrive in Kitwe eager to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 KCM Derby defeat to Konkola Blades last weekend. Coach George โ€˜Chickenโ€™ Lwandamina will demand a response as his side looks to keep pace with Red Arrows and Power Dynamos in the top-four chase.

Nchanga will take confidence from their 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture and boast one of the leagueโ€™s most dangerous attacking combinations, with Christopher Itaka providing the goals and Elliot Kampukesa pulling the strings.

For Mutondo, the stakes could not be higher. Sitting 16th on 13 points, they are still searching for their first-ever win over Nchanga Rangers in four meetings and will be desperate to claim vital points in their fight for survival.

Rangers are third on the log with 29 points, while Mutondo hover just above the drop zone.

Nkana FC vs FC Leopards

Kick-off: 15:00
Venue: Nkana Stadium (Chilata), Kitwe

In-form Nkana FC will look to continue their upward momentum when they host struggling FC Leopards at Chilata.

Kalampa have quietly put together a strong run, going five matches unbeaten, with four wins, including victories in each of their last three outings. That resurgence has lifted Nkana to 13th place with 19 points, easing relegation fears.

They face an FC Leopards side firmly entrenched in trouble. Leopards are 17th with 13 points and arrive in Kitwe needing a result to halt their slide.

The visitors are under the guidance of Albert Kachinga, who is in his second match since returning to the club. His reign began with a defeat away to Nkwazi, and pressure is already building.

Nkana hold the recent edge in this fixture, unbeaten in the last two meetings with one win and a draw. Victory on Friday could see Kalampa climb above NAPSA Stars, while another defeat for Leopards would deepen their relegation crisis.

Mufulira Wanderers vs Mines United

Kick-off: 15:00
Venue: Shinde Stadium, Mufulira

At Shinde Stadium, Mighty Mufulira Wanderers welcome bottom-placed Mines United in a fixture carrying contrasting ambitions.

Wanderers are chasing a return to the top five and come into the match buoyed by a 2-1 win over Green Buffaloes. A further three points could strengthen their push up the table.

Mines United, however, will take belief from their shock 1-0 victory over Green Eagles, a result that kept their survival hopes alive.

Wanderers coach will look to attacking trio Patson Kwataime, Paul Tembo and Joseph Tumbwe to unlock the Mines defence, having already beaten the visitors 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Wanderers sit sixth with 25 points, while Mines United remain rooted to the bottom with 12 points, knowing every match now carries must-win pressure.
