Mozambique coach: Zambia will be tough even without Jacob, Chris Katongo

Mozambique coach Joao Chissano says Chipolopolo is still strong despite being without captain  Christopher Katongo and striker Jacob Mulenga for the return leg of the 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers.

In an interview with The Post Newspapers Chissano said Zambia did not depend on one player but was a strong unit which would give his side a tough game when the teams clash in Maputo on November 14.

“Zambia is not affected in any way by the dropping of Katongo. They have a lot of good players and I’m sure the coach  has picked the best. For us, we are not looking at any player. We are concentrating on Zambia as a team,” Chissano said.

Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza has dropped veterans Katongo and Mulenga  for the remaining two AfCON Group F games, opting for younger players.

Chissano said the recent death of president Michael Sata had made the clash  even tougher as Zambia would want to win in memory of the head of state.

“We send our condolences to the Zambian people. But this means Zambia will play to honour the late president. We expect a tough game. They have professional players and the funeral will not affect them in any way,” he said.

Chissano further noted that both teams would play under pressure as  they fight for second position, which they share with five points each.

The two teams played to a goalless draw at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on September 6. Group leaders Cape Verde have already qualified to next year’s tournament. –

  1. criss is old so prepare to face speedy and more versetile players. we are beating the mambas in their own bedroom.

  2. This is the decider and if we get it right we are through. Cape Verde will fall in Zambia. Let the coach prepare the team adequately for all possible scenarios. Our history as much as some will say don’t dwell on history serves us well against Mozambique apart from the draw. The coach had no clue in that game and was completely out foxed.

  3. Lubambo musonda should start the boy is red hot in europe that goal he scored 2 weeks ago is world class i expect him in a big league next season. Lubambo should play wide kalaba in the middle and chisamba on the other wing.

  4. It looks like Moçambicans wil try to exploit all posible means that they pull a win out of nxt of nxt wk’s match. And 4 ths,we shd approach them with care,no gamble. We have to feature the best eleven ever.My best 11 is

    6.Sinkala
    7.Chisamba
    8.Kalaba
    9.Mayuka
    10.Singuluma
    11.Musakanya

  5. I think the fans should give the coach a break the guy hasn’t been there long and people are breathing on his neck im shocked. Yes the team selection is a bit poor leaving out evans kangwa but leave him alone for now. Honestly herve renard would never have beaten Niger 3-0 in Ndola. The guy was pathetic against half decent teams there is no way Niger would have been beaten like that under renard. Yes we should have a better coach but some of the comments are getting annoying allow him to work and breath for now. Renard was drawing at home against sudan you didn’t make this much noise.

        • you are not listening to me. Janza is not good enough to coach the national team. But can you just shut up for a moment and let him carry out his work once he has completely failed then when we remove him. Do you understand what im saying man…..all this noise people are making is just confusing him leave him alone he will figure out by himself that his team selections are poor.

  6. I refer to the above line up, in my opinion I think Lubambo is far much better than Bruce, who I think the boy has an EGO,he plays much better wide,Musonda I mean.

  7. People GOD favors those who work hard,in this case train hard ,good tactical approach, speedy hungrier lineup.so do not Use James hence GOD will fovour us.The cabo verde game just drop him and replace Evans.

  8. @Discipline, You hit the nail on the head. God would not be unfair to Mozambique,if Mozambique prepares well why should God favour Zambia ? Very poor reasoning, you know where things go wrong and then you say God will favour Zed. What a shame !!!

  9. Mozambique came to Zambia to close the game and park the bus. Now they are at home, they will want to open the game and they won’t park the bus. There are very few teams that can beat Zambia in an open attacking game, and not so many times either. Ask Brazil and Japan, here in Africa ask Ghana.

  10. The best line up for me would be;

    1. Mweene
    2. Aaron Katebe
    3. Fuckson Kapumbu
    4. Nyambe Mulenga
    5. Stopila Sunzu
    6. Nathan Sinkala
    7. Chisamba Lungu
    8. Rainford Kalaba
    9. Emmanuel Mayuka
    10. Alex Ngonga
    11. Lubambo Musonda

With this one even Brazil can fall
