Micho – I was just trying to save the situation

Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević says he was not involved in 1/3 of the games in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and should only be made to account for the games he has managed.

Speaking to the ZamFoot Crew after seeing charges drop out of the race to the Africa Cup of Nations Finals, said he came in to try to save the situation.

“Today was my 17th match I have won eight games drawn five and lost four. Unfortunately 1/3 of the qualifiers I was not involved,” Micho said.

“I would count this from the time I came. If you count 1,2,3… the first I was not involved and I came in trying to save the situation. I will count that we have only gotten four points from the last three matches” he added.

The Serbian was reacting to his teams failure to qualify to the finals of the Africa Cup after drawing 3 – 3 with Algeria. He added that he has the core of the team that can take Zambia to the World Cup.

“In football, you can either win or learn the lesson. The lesson learnt today is that with the same spirit we need to represent Zambia and Zambians in the best way. We now have the core of the team that that can be a proper contender to go to the World Cup.”

Zambia is in Group B of the Qatar 22 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and will face Tunisia, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea.

The qualifiers kick off in June, 2021.

Only the top team will qualify to the final round which will comprise 10 teams. The group winners will advance to the final two-legged, home and away knock out round in November when Africa’s five representatives in Qatar will be decided.

  1. He has a point, I think we should keep him, we are undergoing a transformation process, it will take time, but we shall rise again!!!

  2. I don’t think it was Micho’s mandate to qualify Zambia to the nations cup. The man took over way after the qualifiers had started and the ship was already sinking. Let’s judge the man fairly. He’ll start the world cup qualifiers by himself as coach, only after these games shall we be in a better position to see which direction Zambian football is headed.

  3. Micho is below average out of a posible nine points he got 4 points. Mathimatically he was not going to qualify. The two games he wasnt incharge he was going to get 1 point.

  4. The problem with Micho, is he talks too much. What we want are results not talking. Is partly to blame on Zambia’s failure to qualify for Africa Cup bcoz if beat Botswana home and away the situation should have been different. Let him just humble himself than running away from his failures.
