Mbombo back with a bang as Mugalu penalty earns LD maximum points

Congolese forward Idriss Ilunga Mbombo announced his return to the Zambia Super League with a bang scoring a brace to help Nkana beat Green Buffaloes 2-0 at Chilata.

Nkana came into the match looking for their first win against the Soldiers at home since 2015. The match started off slow but Nkana quickly started threatening.

Obed Masumbuko was the first to try his luck but his long-range effort missed the crossbar by inches. Gift Zulu went on a run on the wing minutes later before unleashing a good low cross in the face of the Buffaloes defense but the Soldiers cleared.

Kelvin Mubanga was having a field day leading almost all Nkana attacks. Mubanga threaded a beautiful through ball to Ronald Kampamba but Prince Mumba in the Green Buffaloes goal timed his coming out and got to the balk before the Landlord.

In the second half Nkana came back with more purpose and only took twelve minutes to take the lead as Idriss Ilunga Mbombo flicked a Harun Shakava long searching ball past Mumba in the Buffaloes goal to put Nkana in the lead.

Mbombo nearly doubled the lead minutes later but he took too much time twisting and turning before fluffing his shot. The Congolese forward finally got his second goal 15 minutes from time as he got on the end of a ball from midfield and slotted it past young Mumba in the GBFC goal.

Obed Masumbuko had a chance to increase the lead after Shadreck Malambo found him unmarked in the box but the former Lumwana Radiants player went for power instead of technique ballooning his effort wat above the crossbar.

In Lusaka, Chris Mugalu scored from the spot to earn Lusaka dynamos three points as they narrowly beat Lumwana Radiants 1-0 at Nkoloma Stadium.
