Zambia Under-17 Men’s National Team striker Linecker Mbesuma says the players are focussed on securing one of the four tickets for the U17 FIFA World Cup to be staged later this year.
Speaking after the junior Chipolopolo’s training at Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium Annex in Constantine, Mbesuma says the team is working hard and focussed as they prepare to face Nigeria in the opening Group B match on Sunday at the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Algeria 2023.
The Tournament kicks-off on Saturday, April 29 and the top four teams after May 19 will qualify for the World Cup.
“It feels great to be here. It’s a process of playing in other age group teams like the Under-20, Under-23 and eventually the national team and as a young footballer, it’s everyone’s dream to play for the senior national team,” Mbesuma said.
“Our first target is to get out of the group stage because it is a tough group, The other target is to get to the World Cup and we must also win the AFCON first. My dad (Collins Mbesuma) has been a big influence and he has been guiding me so far and I know he has made a big name back home (in Zambia) and I am here to write my own name,” Mbesuma said.
