Holders Wydad reach fifth Champions League semi final in a row! Only club to have 8 quarter finals in a row!

Morocco’s Athletic Wydad defeated Tanzanian team Simba 4-3 in a penalty shootout to advance to the semi-finals and defend their title as African Champions League champions.

Senegalese striker Pauly Sambo scored the only goal of the game, and goalkeeper Youssef Mutei saved two penalties to secure Wydad’s victory.

They will face the winner of the match between Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Al-Shabab Athletic Belouizdad of Algeria in the next round.

Wydad had lost the first leg 1-0 but dominated the second leg, putting heavy pressure on Simba’s defense and creating numerous chances.

The game went to penalties after the score remained tied at 1-1 on aggregate after extra time.

This will be their fifth CAF Champions League in a row.

They are also only club to have played in eight CAF Champions League quarter finals in a row.
