Mathews Banda leaves for Austria for a two week assessment at Salzburg

Young right back Mathews Banda has left for Europe ahead of a two weeks assessment at Austrian giants Redbull Salzburg.

National Division One side, Kafue Celtic confirmed the development in a statement on their official Facebook page.

Banda will however return after two weeks to continue his development with Celtic while Salzburg will continue monitoring him until he turns 18.

“Former Zambia U17 National team and Crocs right back Mathews Banda has tonight left for Austria where he will undergo a two week assessment at Redbull Salzburg  after which he will return to continue the season with the Crocs. His development will be closely monitored by RB Salzburg until he turns 18.

We wish him the best of luck during his two weeks stay in Austria.

We further wish to thank Mr. Frederick Kanouté for his continued hard work in ensuring that the best of our youngsters are given an opportunity to prove they are ready for a professional career in Europe.”

Should a move come to fruition, Banda will become the third Zambian to join the Austrian side.

Chipolopolo skipper Enock Mwepu and striker Patson Daka had successful stints at the Redbull Arena between 2017 and 2021 before switching to English Premier League sides, Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City respectively.
