Mapepa, Ochumba availability a boost for Copper Queens ahead of Tunisia clash

The Copper Queens will return to action on Wednesday at the ongoing 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Copper Queens will be playing their second Group B match when they take on the Tunisia Women’s national team.

The team has continued its preparations and held a training session at the Complexe Benjelloun in Casablanca this morning.

Coach Bruce Mwape’s squad has been boosted by the availability of winger Xiomala Mapepa and striker Ochumba Oseke Lubanji.

The duo missed the goalless draw against Cameroon in the opener after accumulating yellow cards in the qualifiers.

Mapepa was the top goalscorer in the 2022/2022 Women’s Super League having scored 17 goals from the 15 league games she played.

The Elite Ladies forward also scored the goal that took Zambia to the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations away in Namibia when the Copper Queens came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with the Brave Gladiators.

Ochumba on the other hand was the Copper Queens’ top goalscorer at the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championships with four goals on the road to Zambia collecting bronze medals.

The kick-off at the Mohammed V stadium will be at 19h00CAT.

The top four finishers in Morocco will qualify directly for the World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2023, while two additional teams will progress to the intercontinental play-offs.

  1. We used to beat them…until i think somebody told them to win in their minds, before they even kick the ball, the Tunisians. The Copper Queens look good at it.
A good team is built from behind. You stop conceding. Our focal point was in the opposition half. Even if we lost possession…that is bound to happen. The passes where fairly accurate. I didn’t have enough time to see which prisms where following, In any case the pattern was regular and repeatable….you can put in your numbers, those of you who only see 4, 4, 2 and the like.
