Zambia’s COSAFA Championship title defence started off on a bad note as they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to neighbours, Malawi.
Aaron Katebe’s own goal was the difference as Malawi recorded their first win over Zambia since 2015.
Patson Kwataime, Wisdom Libamba Moyela, John Chishimba and Killian Kanguluma were given a chance to start.
Malawi looked the better side from the word go piling pressure on the Moses Sichone tutored side.
The Flames took the lead in the 16th minute as Katebe headed into his own net after a mix up with his defensive partner, Kanguluma.
The Copper Bullets tried to push for an equaliser but never looked like coming back into the match Malawi held on to win 1-0.
Zambia will return to the pitch on Sunday when they face Comoros and will conclude their group B fixtures with a tie against Seychelles on Tuesday.
