Former Zambia U-20 national team defender Golden Mafwenta has left for the United States of America.
The 2019 COSAFA U-20 winner left for the USA this afternoon. Mafwenta has penned a season long loan deal with Utah based Real Monarchs which is a professional soccer club playing in the MLS Next Pro, a third division league of American soccer.
He is expected to start training with his new teammates on Monday. Real Monarchs are a feeder club of Major Soccer League side, Real Salt Lake.
The former Zanaco and Buildcon defensive kingpin has penned a four year deal with MFK VyÅ¡kov, A team that campaigns in the Czech National Football League, the second level of Czech and that’s where he will head after his stint in the USA.
Mafwenta was part of the Zambia U-20 national team that won the 2019 U-20 COSAFA championship on home soil under Oswald Mutapa.
Mafwenta is also on the fringes of the senior national team having received a handful of call ups under Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević.
