Luyando and Eagles in sixth heaven as Lusaka Women’s League kicks-off

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Women’s Provincial Leagues got off to a positive start over the past weekend with very interesting results coming through across the country.

Well, here is a roundup of all the results and fixtures for Lusaka Province.

Green Eagles and Luyando Foundation Girls made headlines in Week 1 as they recorded huge and similar victories thrashing newcomers Misisi Queens United and ZISD respectively with the same scoreline of 6-0 in their matches while Kafue Celtic Queens, Progress Sports Club, and Twikatane also recorded wins in their matches.

Green Eagles played host to Misisi Queens United at ZNS Makeni Grounds, with the host looking more favorable on paper to carry the day though they started on a low note scoring only a single goal in the first half through Rachael Moono, tough half time team talk from Coach Simon Kayombo ensured that the ZNS sponsored side comeback as a more rejuvenated side in the second half and added 5 more goals to the scoreline.

Racheal Moono completed her brace and so was Natasha Nanyangwe who also found the back of the net twice with Sylvia Zulu and Vanessa Litaba putting their names on the scoresheet to send warning shots to other teams in the league with a resounding 6-nil victory over Misisi based team.

Luyando’s Grace ‘Dangote’ Sakala was Match Week 1 top goal scorer after she scored a hattrick for Luyando Foundation Girls who dismantled ZISD 6-0 at Independence Stadium with playmaker Susan Evalyne Katongo, Catherine Mulenga, and Matilda Beauty Zulu adding the icing on the cake for the Kanyama based side who produced an excellent performance.

At Lotus Sports Club Grounds, Chibolya Sports Academy Girls who were playing at home away from home had a tough time against old-timers Kafue Celtic Queens as they lost 2-0, Celtic Queens found the back of the net through Margaret Chilekwa and Josephine Mweene who has now scored two goals in her last two matches for the Coach Zizwachi Mseteka drilled lasses who picked up vital 3 points.

Elsewhere, at Olympia Park Secondary School Grounds, the second of the doubleheader match saw Progress Sports Club recording a hard-fought 1-nil victory over a determined Mapani side who could have carried the day but failed to convert their chances. A first-half strike from Mary Siamukande was all that mattered as Progress defeated 9-women Mapani by a lone goal as the home side played the entire match with a numerical disadvantage owing to a shortage in the number of expected players.

Meanwhile, the first match failed to prevail as National Assembly Women Football Club shockingly failed to show up against Pataaki Girls. The referee awarded a walk-over with three points and three goals to stubborn girls.

In Zingalume, Twikatane Queens edged Football Chance Foundation Girls 1-0 in an entertaining game.

Football Chance Foundation could have done better but they missed a lot of scoring opportunities as Esther scored the vital goal for Twikatane.

It was a similar affair in Kanyama as King Sports Academy who is formerly Liso Girls wrestled their way out as they defeated Garden Youth 1-nil thanks to Florence Musoba with the match winner.

The only match remaining for Week 1 between Lusaka Queens and Red Lions Women will be played this Wednesday 24th February 2021 at TAP Grounds with Kick-Off at 14:00hrs.
